About

There are so many churches in Krakow, most of these churches are world famous, churches such as St Mary's Basilica, St Florians Church I class as both historic and important, its a wonderful looking church that was constructed between 1185-1216 ,a great example of Baroque architecture, its part of the famous Royal Way ,over the centuries its been destroyed multiple times particularly during the 12th,16th and 17th century ,I just love the look of it,its such a photogenic church that most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area .

One of the most beautiful churches in Krakow,St Florian's Church was constructed by 1216 making it one of the oldest churches in Krakow ,a beautiful example of Baroque architecture at it's best ,the church exterior is superb but it's the interior that's even more special ,wonderful features throughout ,the alter alone is worth a visit ,it's just an amazing looking church ,it's often overshadowed by the magnificent St Mary's Basilica but this church is no less beautiful ,it's easy to locate along Ulica Warszawska and is most certainly well worth seeking out if you're planning on visiting Krakow.

Located at the top of Plac Matejki, St. Florian's Basilica is dating back to the 12th or early 13th century and consecrated by Kraków bishop and historian Wincenty Kadłubek. The church is said to have been built on the spot where oxen transporting the relics of St. Florian - a 3rd-century Christian martyr who had just been deemed the patron saint of Poland - stopped and refused to budge.

The church was only about a block away from our hotel. We stopped in for a few minutes-very nice exterior and interior. JP II was a priest here.

Situated a few metres away from St Florians Gate and behind the Grunwald Monument is this church with a sign that claims it’s the most beautiful church of Krakow.

It certainly is as would be many of the churches that dot this historic old town.

We visited this church as a sign outside claimed it was the best church in Krakow, although it is a beautiful church and worth a visit, in my opinion the best church in Krakow is St Anne’s.

We recently visited the Collegiate Church of Saint Florian (Kościół św. Floriana w Krakowie), a historic church dating back to 1185 that stands at the northern end of Matejko Square. From 1949 to 1951, Father Karol Wojtyła, who later became Pope John Paul II, worked at Saint Florian Church as a vicar. As Pope, he elevated the church to a minor basilica in 1999. He also visited the Church on his papal pilgrimage to Poland in 2002. We were able to take a few pictures of the interior of this church without disturbing anyone. While a bit off the beaten path of tourists, this beautiful church is worth visiting.

13th cent. Baroque style church , located at the tip of Plac Jana Matejki , only 200 meters north of the Barakan Krakowski .
Rather plain outside , beautiful inside and not crowded . If yoy stay in the area , you can start your Stare Miasto tour .
