About
The Rynek Underground exhibition presents not only Krakow’s rich history, but also the connections between the city and mediaeval Europe’s chief centres of trade and culture. Moreover, it portrays the significance of the capital of Poland in the operation of the Hanseatic League. The real historical objects on display, just to mention 14th-century coins, decorations, and pottery, are proof of the European cultural and trade exchange that continued here incessantly for hundreds of years. The tourist route under the Main Market Square leads between the stone and brick walls of the cellars of former trading sites, including the Kramy Bolesławowe Stalls, Kramy Bogate Stalls, the Great Scales, and the Cloth Hall. Opening hours: Winter season (November – March) Monday, Wednesday - Sunday 10.00-20.00 Tuesday 10.00-16.00 Summer season (April – October) Monday 10.00-20.00 Wednesday - Sunday 10.00-22.00 Tuesday 10.00-16.00 Exhibition is closed on every second Monday of the month.

So many rocks. Not many lights. Not enough skellingtons.

Its a great concept poorly executed, and could be made so much better with audio tours.

Stopped off here on the way back to our hotel after a day exploring the jewish quarter. It is located below the main cloth hall. We went to the main entrance only to be told you had to go to the other side of the building and then return back to the entrance to go in . It is a large museum and obviously has had a lot of money spent on it. It shows some of the archelogical remains of the old city buried beneath the car park. There are a lot of artefacts and several hands on exhibits. However I found it very dark and a lot of the information was in small print and difficult to read in the low light. Several of the exhibits only had the wording and commentary in polish which was a little frustrating. It was ok but we didn't spend long there , and I think there are better places to visit in the city

This museum could have been so much better. It provides a history of Old Town with excavations finding old roads and buildings under the main square. Unfortunately the lighting was so poor, it was hard to read the information boards - we thought we’d use the torches on our phones and got in trouble by one of the staff members. The information boards were all numbered but some just couldn’t be found.

Quite literally the worst experience I’ve ever paid for.
Save your time and money and do something useful instead.
I’m convinced that they keep it so dark inside to prevent you from realising just how dreadful the experience would be if they had the lights on.
Even if you find an object of interest, it’s so dark you can’t read the associated information boards. Had to use the torch on my phone for the few items of interest.
Basically your looking at old foundations, most of which aren’t even original and a few relics thrown in to try to make something of the place.
Wouldn’t give it the time of day. Felt completely ripped off.

Very disappointing. A somewhat haphazard arrangement of artefacts and art over three levels although there’s no chronological descriptions to orient the visitor or indication of the historical significance of the exhibits. Whilst the museum has other centres describing life in Krakow during the wars it completely ignores the role of the town and townsfolk during the Jewish roundups and deportations. Much more needed on this period.

Over policing with security staff in every room who follow you around making the visitor feel very uncomfortable.

With a little effort the museum could be much more user friendly and informative for visitors.

After exploring the Old Town Square, we stumbled across Muzeum Krakowa (given that it’s based under the main building and ticket office on the other side of the building), we paid approx. £10 each for entry into the museum. In the ticket office, there is a coin souvenir machine for a small takeaway before entering the museum.

Entering the museum is easy enough however keeping track of each exhibition is not so thus we had a good explore of the museum itself and each exhibition which includes relics of the past (combs, jewellery etc.), a floor map of medical trade routes, videos and interactive digital booklets which shed light on the history of the city.

There are also mock graves, wells with skeletons and utensils, and 3D models of what the medieval city looked like, along with large sections of road which shows how each era built for carriages to travel.

There was a tour guide which I stuck close to at points as they further expanding on the lore of the city in enthusiastic and engaging dialogue.

The entire museum takes around 2+ hours to fully complete which ends with a series of mini-cinema rooms showing how the museum was built and constructed in the early 2000s, and finished with a small gift shop.

Krakow is really nice. An old cultural town filled with an urban young vibe and many small very, very cheap restaurants compared to Denmark. Even in the main square the beer was a lot cheaper than in Denmark. We stayed for three nights and got around to see the most important including Nova Huta (but except Auschwitz). We stayed just outside Stare Miasto and could walk to everything in the city.
