Another of the 7 synagogues of Krakow is the Kupa synagogue; its origins going back to the 17th century but since it has had a tormented history.

The building is quite simple from the outside; but the inside is beautifully decorated. As it was burnt down, it is still in a constant renovation and your 10 PLN (2 EUR) will help fund that work.

The colors are all very subdued and subtle; pastel blues and creamy colors with touches of orange. Below the upper gallery runs a frieze with the zodiac signs, and scenes from biblical cities - Jerusalem, Hebron etc.

The decorations are mostly more recent, but you can find a part of the old decorations on a corner wall with Hebrew inscriptions.

One of the oldest Synagogues in Krakow and founded in 1643 ,The Kupa Synagogue ( Synagoga Kupa ) is a true survivor ,during World War Two and with Krakow occupied by the German Army who were intent upon removing all vestiges of the Jewish faith this synagogue stood proud ,the interior is beautiful ,the building itself is eye catching and it's set in pretty grounds ,it's a tiny fee to enter and well worth checking out if you're in the Jewish Quarter and easy to locate along Miodowa.

This was just incredible. It defied words and the story behind the interior decoration was amazing. The wonderful man on reception just made the experience so much more meaningful. Thank you this was one of the most fabulous synagogues we visited.

Dating from 1643, the Kupa Synagogue is not the oldest of Kazimierz’s houses of worship, nor is it one of the biggest. However, having been lovingly restored after World War II, it is certainly one of the most beautiful, complete with colorful wall and ceiling paintings, many with biblical scenes, ornate, but elegant wrought-iron chandeliers, and recently uncovered ornamental and liturgical wall paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries. The tree-shaded garden also provided an oasis on a hot summer day.

Very much worth a visit.

Rude bloke on reception, only people there and a waste of ten minutes 🙄. Really disappointing and couldn’t get over how rude the guy on reception was, tutted as we didn’t have exact money and slammed change on table. Don’t waste your time.

One of the most renowned and famous synagogues in Krakow is the Kupa Synagogue, founded in 1643 ,this place of worship has some serious history attached to it.
My twin brother Stephen and I were wandering around this part of town on a freezing cold Wednesday afternoon when we passed this synagogue, although we never entered it ,we have on previous holidays to this most beautiful of cities and it's well worth the entrance fee which is miniscule, it's about £1 to enter,it's got vintage furnishings, great artwork and a really nice look to the synagogue, the grounds the synagogue is set in are beautifully tended ,it's just one great place to visit.
We stopped and admired the synagogue before we scurried off to the warmth of a pub across the road .
Kupa Synagogue is easy to locate Ulica Miodowa in the heart of the Jewish Quarter. Well worth checking out.

I had to wait for the door to be unlocked when I arrived at 9.30. At first the synagogue seems quite plain but upon reading the leaflet provided I soon noticed the beautiful paintings and interesting furniture. Worth a visit it you are passing by

The Kupa Synagogue was the second stop on the self guided tour that my wife and I took in Kazimierz. It cost only 5 zloty each to enter and although still used for religious services, it was not as impressive inside as some of the others that we visited.
