Had read about a half of his amazing book prior to visiting - what an incredible range of events he endured in WW2. Impressive statue, and very pleased to pay my respects - recommended...

Located on Ulica Szeroka, the most beautiful street in the Jewish Quarter is this statue in honour of Jan Karski.
Jan Karski ( 1914- 2000 ) was a Polish Army officer, a resistance fighter and courier ,it was he who alerted the Allies of the plight of the Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto and also about the plight of the Jewish faith at the hands of the Axis forces ,a well respected man ,a hero ,the statue shows the great man sitting in relaxed pose ,its a wonderful statue that's most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area and easy to locate along Ulica Szeroka.

Nothing too special, but an interesting sculptural piece. You really need to understand the historical background story to fully appreciate it.

When approaching the Remuh synagogue, there is a tiny little area just to the right of the entrance where a monument has been raised in the honor of Jan Karski.

Karski was a Catholic Pole, and in the army at the beginning of the war. He was caught by the Russians, but manages to hide his true grade as an officer and escapes the Katyn massacre for which a memorial is raised outside the St Giles church at the beginning of Grodzka street.

He joins the underground resistance and several times enters the Warsaw ghetto through underground tunnels. From the ghetto he smuggles out important information on conditions inside, which reaches the outside world. After the war he was named Righteous among the Nations by the state of Israel.

The monument is put in place in 2016 and shows Karski sitting on a bench looking very reflective and pensive while a plaque on the wall behind him commemorates his deeds.

Jan Karski, the famous Polish hero, is now forever here, in the old Jewish quarter - so fitting for his actions towards saving Jews during WWII.

Statue is not particularly interesting, but it is informative to visitors who may not know of Jan Karski and his deeds during the Nazi occupation.

It’s a statue in the Jewish Quoter. A very nice statue but still just a statue. That’s all I have to say. I appreciate what-it represents.
