The area
Neighbourhood: Nove Mesto (New Town)
Nearly 700 hundred metres long, Wenceslas Square represents the most frequent and buzzing crossroads of the city. The National Museum in the upper part of the square watches over your spending spree in countless shops and retail stores lining the entire square, which ends at Na Příkopě, the most famous shopping street. When tired or broke, you can explore the city's underpasses, which can take you to the Old Town or to the courtyards of art nouveau houses with secret gems of greenery, white benches and rose bushes that provide unexpected peace in the midst of the city. Be sure to pay a visit to the traditional cafés, classic Czech pubs, cinemas and theatres. National Theatre near the river has a lot to offer to foreigners. Go to the river bank and enjoy live music and drinks while watching a sunset behind Prague Castle.

Slovansky Ostrov is the rather beautiful little park area that all year around is a great place to view .
In the summer it's alive with people renting little boats to explore the Vltava River,in the winter is a great place to view especially if the snow has been falling which it was when I visited in December ,views of Zofin Palace ,Mains Gallery ,water towers and the river itself make it a wonderful place to visit ,it's a park area most definitely well worth checking out of you're in the area.

The Island is right across from the National theater. Great to visit in the summer, because there is the spot to rent the boats. It is fun to watch people to stay afloat.

Just a perfect place to escape the crowds in any season.
Children friendly restaurant and playground , great location , convenient for families .

Directly in front of National Theatre is this island where you can rent a small boat and spent an enjoyable hour on river, just mind the big boats, otherwise you are in trouble ))

What a great little park for a quiet sit down. There’s also lots for the kids to do if you have them with a well equipped play area and a little children’s train

Only takes a few minutes to walk around this little island on the river. Nice little parkland area with benches and easy to walk footpaths. Also kids play area. Worth 10 minutes or so of your time.

Slovansky Ostrov is a welcoming island offering lots of activities, some for families with children. Lunches and dinners are served in the Zofin Palace.

We like to come for a restful walk by the river and on an occasion rent out an old-fashioned row boat - very inexpensive and a great fun on a hot day.

Have some fun ...we did !
Row, row, row your boat....

On our way to the Dancing Building, we were side tracked to this island. The island is right at Masarykovo nábř and facing the Vltava River. The island has a few buildings, like The Building Manes, a hundred year oid Šítkovská water tower and Žofín Building. There is a café and restaurant and a nice park. We had a quiet relaxing walk right after a rain shower. Not many people were using the park and no kids were in the playground but the view was great from the park. We spent half an hour there.

Lovely little space for the young children to play next to the river. Right in the middle of everything touristy but free. We really enjoyed time here with a 3 year old.

We were strolling along the banks of the river enjoying the weather and crossed over on to this little island. There was an event for local children going on with entertainers and music. There were long queues for food. It looked as if every one was having a good time.

There are three easily accessible islands on the Vltava and this is the one where you can hire row boats or pedalos. We hired a pedalo for four of us for 200cek for an hour. It was mid afternoon and we had a short wait 10-15min before one was available, but it was no bother. We used S.P.L.A.V at the tip of the island. They have a separate bar where you can chill after your river exertions and watch all the other pedalos as the sun beats down on you.
