Went there to see the magic flute! The truth is that the whole play was children oriented but that is not necessarily bad! Personally I liked this alternative of the opera and it was the first time I saw marionettes play! I am glad I went and watched it, after all Czech Republic is the home lad of marionette theater

I was so disappointed with this show, not only because I had booked far in advance to see The Magic Flute, but also because I had brought 21 German students with me and I had purposefully booked to see The Magic Flute because I thought the Marionette show would be in the German language which would be easier for my... I found this production to be magical and a highlight of the trip. The puppeteers give the marionettes such emotion and depth. I read the Wikipedia on the story of Din Giovanni so I could follow it. Absolute masterpiece.

Pleased we did not heed the recent ba humbug reviews. Maybe they lowered our expectations a little, but they are unfair. True, the puppets are not the fully mobile marionettes of the Sound of Music, but this is not Rogers and Hammerstein technicolour. It is Prague and the puppeteers are clearly passionate and skilled, carrying on a wonderful tradition. The... More

We went to this show expecting to see beautiful, expert puppetry. Instead, the quality of the puppetry was extremely poor - instead of walking, the puppets either floated or were flung across the stage. We started to wonder if the whole things was a send-up of puppetry! There was an odd inconsistency - only one of them (Leporello) had a... More

We saw the marionette version of the opera Don Giovanni, which was great fun and good for adults and children. The marionettes are large, expertly maneuvered to a soundtrack of the great Mozart Opera.

The cost (22 US$) and overall performance left me underwhelmed. If you're expecting a marionette performance like that from the iconic Sound of Music you will be sorely disappointed. The Don Giovanni performance was mediocre and I would have preferred to spend my evening in another way. It was a very old theater with uncomfortable wooden seats. The limited seating... More

We highly recommend seeing Don Giovanni at the National Marionette Theater! If you're looking for a great evening out in Prague that includes humor, culture and artistic flair then this marionette show will not disappoint! The sets are creative, the marionettes are amazing and the music is Mozart! The theater is also beautiful and historic in its own right -... More

I am very interested in puppetry. My partner, not so much. However we both had an enjoyable time seeing Don Giovanni. You can purchase a program where you can read the storyline, but I enjoyed reading the Wikipedia page that outlined what happens in each scene. I only speak English but I could follow along just fine. It did help... More

Don Giovanni, really interesting show. I would not say it is a 'must see' in Prague, but it is definitely a good way to spend your evening and get closer to the traditional art of the territory and the people. The ones who arrive earlier can get a better seat, so maybe you would want to check in 40 min... More

Staying in Stare Mesto (Old Town)

Neighbourhood Profile
Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighbourhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.
