I understand that security is a priority in these magnificent public buildings but I found that all the officials at ths other galleries were far less obtrusive. I'm in my 50's and carrying my bag on one arm eventually causes back ache. I usually have a small back pack that I carry front ways so that the weight is evenly... More

I read several reviews of this gallery describing it as a gem. They're right! It's wonderful. As one of the National Gallery group, it's best to buy a ticket for all the sites. The Sternberg Palace is a bit tricky to find, as it's at the end of a lane with a very low-key signage. The lane curves slightly to... More

Part of the National Gallery and accessible on the same ticket that gives you admission to over six museums the city. This one, as well as the Salm and Schwarzenberg are clustered together around an open area--although the Sternberg's entrance is down a little alley with no signs. (If you start down an alley and see a closed gate, keep... More

This is a great museum, part of the Prague National Gallery (one ticket gets you admission to six galleries), directly next to Prague Castle. One bit of forewarning, I would not recommend bringing small children, no matter how well behaved or controlled. The guards in the museum followed us relentlessly, continually radioing our position to their colleagues, even coming into... More

Hidden and lacking much signage is this jewel of Prague. We got there around 10.30 and while the throngs were in a mile long line for the castle, we waltzed in and enjoyed this wonder by ourselves. The art ranges from BC to the 20th century and is housed in this superb palace with vaulted ceilings some of which are... More

A truly world class art gallery. Beautiful pieces by many famous artists. The tour I did included Lucas Cranach exhibition, fantastic. An amazing collection of pre Renaissance paintings, great exhibition, highly recommended. Great to get away from the crowds for a while and also get out of the rain.

Overlooked by most visitors, I always like to spend some time here because the collection is wonderful and there are no crowds. Even if you are not an art afficionado, you will enjoy some of the art pieces. The attached cafe is also overlooked, and is a wonderful spot to grab lunch away from the crowds. By sharing your experiences,... More

The gallery is housed in the building that also has been the abode of the Papal representative since the 15th century. For a small entry fee, you can gain entrance to 3 art galleries including this one. I don't know much about art but do appreciate a good thing when I see one. The collection here is good. There are... More

As many TA reviewers have said, this museum is difficult to find; not the building but the right entrance. The museum is part of a complex of three museums right in front of the Prague Castle’s ornate gates. If you want to buy a combo ticket for all three museums you enter the newer complex to the right when looking... More

Smallish gallery choc a bloc with German old masters. Found the most life-like still life I have ever seen- by Abraham Mignon(sadly no post card of it available). Slightly weird small garden with sculpture. One of the BEST CAFEs we found in Prague- with tables, comfy sofas, art and amazing cakes and desserts. Tried to go back again but sadly... More

Staying in Hradcany & Letna

Neighbourhood Profile
Hradcany & Letna
Your experience in Prague will never be complete if you do not see it from the top. Hillsides, stretched from the west to the north, provide spectacular views of greenish copper cupolas, narrow cobblestone streets, bridges connecting both river banks and green gardens from red-roof tops of centuries-old houses. Prague pulls you into its 1300 year old history. Walking up the hill or stairs to Prague Castle, the historical seat of Czech rulers and the majestic Saint Vitus Cathedral can leave you speechless (and out of breath). Luckily, plenty of terrace cafés overlooking gardens and beautiful parks are available to provide rest and a place to catch your breath again.
