About
The Old Town Hall is one of the most significant monuments in the Czech Republic. It was established in 1338 as the administrative seat for Prague's Old Town. Now, it is mainly used for the ceremonial purposes of the capital city, Prague. The historical town hall consists of a set of five medieval houses, the corner of which is adorned with a historical astronomical clock, a gothic oriel window and a massive rectangular tower. The lookout gallery on the town hall tower offers the most beautiful view of Prague. A tour of the historical halls in the Old Town Hall is a unique experience. The expensively decorated rooms date from various periods and are examples of the remarkable development of the town hall complex. The guided tours in various languages are organised in hourly intervals.

Neighbourhood: Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighbourhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.

    Do the guided tour!
We did a tour of the cellar as well as went to the top of the tower. It was pretty cool to hear some Czech history as well as spend our time up above the tour with an amazing viewpoint of the square and city view. Highly worth the cost

    Magical clock in Magical Prague
This is a very old and scientifically built astronomical clock which tells an array of information which is applicable to Prague specifically. At the hour it’s quite an experience with the click coming alive . A local guide usually explains the intricate clock . Well worth many visits.Pork and sausages nearby must be tried . They are delicious. Will visit again

    Worth seeing on the hour!!!!
The clock was first installed in 1410, making it the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest clock still in operation. The medieval tower clock is located at the southern side of the Old Town Hall Tower. When the clock strikes the hour (9am to 11pm), the procession of the 12 apostles starts and ends with the golden rooster that crows!! Fun to watch!

    Fascinating!
In today's modern world of internet, computers, 3D movies, smartphones, Instagram, and videogames, I can see why the average low attention span and uneducated American tourist will be disappointed in Prague's Astronomical Clock. And of course the hordes of tourists surrounding you while you try to video record the entire mechanical show of each hour. But give this old clock some credit! It dates all the way back to 1410...that really old! What we see now was completed in 1791, that's over 200 years old! Considering how bad most people are about math, engineering, and science in today's world...this is a really awesome old clock!

A stunning square with Christmas Markets
We visited for the Old Town Square for the Christmas Markets and we were not disappointed. A beautiful square with so many stunning buildings, including churches & monuments. The Christmas stalls were mainly selling delicious smelling food & drink but also lots selling Christmas gifts & novelties. The smell of cinnamon was lovely & the mulled wine. The centre piece was a huge tree decorated with baubles and lights. We visited firstly during the day and loved it but we returned the following day in the evening and it was spectacular the lights were amazing (the tree is switched on fully every evening) the whole square had a different feel to it so alive & vibrant. The food smelled even better & we succumbed to a hot dog each which was delicious plus my husband tried the old Prague ham. There was music & lights and it felt so festive it was very heartwarming to experience it. You can even go on a horse drawn carriage ride A lot busier than daytime as there were people everywhere but everyone was in good spirits. If you're there for Christmas it's a must The astrological clock area is packed when the clock is ready to chime and it's a must see but maybe a little disappointing especially for those who waited for quite a long time for a prime spot.

    MUST DO WHEN VISITING PRAGUE
Absolutely brilliant, great value for money and a true insight into the history of Prague itself. Eva was an absolutely amazing tour guide who offered us a fountain of knowledge which made our trip all the better. Make sure to visit the underground areas, that was my favourite!
Hello, thank you for your kind message and review. We are really glad that you had such a positive experience with the tour of the Old Town Hall with the Astronomical Clock and we are also happy that our guide Eva contributed to it, which made the tour much more interesting for you. The tour of the underground areas is only possible with a guide, so we are glad that you have arranged this way of tour, which is included in the price of each ticket. We will pass on your words of praise to our guide Eva, who will also be very pleased. Thank you for your visit and we hope you will come and visit us again sometime. Best regards, Prague City Tourism

Great Way to See the Interior of an Iconic Building.
Great guided tour lasting just under an hour. Fascinating insight to the Old Town Hall rooms, including the cellars, and close up interior viewing point of the clock’s 12 apostles, and access to open air balcony at top of clock tower giving 360 degree views of Prague. Tour Guide, Petr, was very informative, giving concise history of the building, artefacts and city without overloading and keeping the group’s attention. Would definitely recommend this as a ‘must do’; well worth it.
Hello, thank you for your kind message and review. We are really pleased that you decided to take the tour and that with your guide Petr, his engaging commentary and tour of all the places and corners, the visit to the Old Town Hall with the Astronomical Clock became a fascinating experience for you. We greatly appreciate how you can appreciate the beauty of this important monument. We sincerely hope that you will come back again and enjoy the same pleasant experience as you did now. Yours sincerely, Prague City Tourism

    Third-oldest astronomical clock
Attached to the Old Town Hall in Prague, is the medieval astronomical clock. Its a very popular attraction and always attracting crowds. This clock was installed in 1410 and is the third-oldest astronomical clock and the only one still operating. We watched the hourly show depicting "The Walk of the Apostles" The figure of a skeleton during the show represents Death.

    Unexpected highlight of our trip!
Put this on your “must see” list when you’re visiting Prague! We didn’t really know what to expect and thought it’d just be a self guided tour of an old building with a unique clock. But this was fantastic! The views from the top are spectacular and we spent a long time up there taking in Prague. The building’s history is rich and, our tour guide, Eva, really brought it to life. Walked away having had a great afternoon and feeling like we really learnt something.
Hello, thank you for your kind message and review. We are very glad that you enjoyed your visit to the Old Town Hall with the astronomical clock and that you had an experience that you will remember for a long time. We are pleased that you decided to take part in a guided tour, thanks to which you could not only get a glimpse of our history, but also learn about how the astronomical clock works, enjoy the magnificent view from the town hall tower and, last but not least, you could also take a look underground, which is only possible during a guided tour. We promise you that the words of praise will reach the guide Eva, who will also be very happy about it. Thank you again and we look forward to your next visit. Kind regards, Prague City Tourism

It really is a beautiful part of Prague but be prepared for the fact that everyone else thinks so too and thus the entire area is packed for most of the day. The side streets can be quite small and cramped and there are lots of over priced places to eat and attract the tourists.
All that aside it is well worth a visit just to see the beautiful architecture and the history of Prague. Go early when it is quieter and you can move more freely... I would also suggest avoiding weekends if you can as it does attract the stag and hen dos.

The place has a nice nice atmosphere, I was there in January '19 and it was still very busy so I imagine at warmer times it could be chaos. It was however, delightful. It was cold and snowing and we ate outdoors by the the cosy fire pits in a fairly affordable restaurant. People watching is great to do here.

Be wary of people trying to sell you tat of course, we had an artist try to sell us a silhouette image. A nice guy but if you find these encounters awkward (which it was) just be aware. Overall it was a great experience and my favourite thing to do in Prague is simply explore.

Well worth the entrance charge, ( reduced for over 65's) Lift to take you up if you don't fancy the climb and walk down. The Christmas market was still on ,6th. Jan, when we visited, so the view was amazing from the top. Bit hectic with people hogging a space to take endless 'selfies' ....why? when the view is the reason for climbing to the top!! Ticket also entitles you to view other rooms in the building, we had an interesting conversation with a guide who explained some of Czech's turbulent history.

This clock gets a lot of tourists every time it chimes as all of the big groups base their tours around it. There are quite a few bars surrounding the square so you car see and hear it while enjoying a drink or 2 (or more :)) - just be prepared for the price of the drinks. The clock itself is good to see once - all of the moving pieces are interesting and surprising it still works but you don't have to see it everyday.

The 600 year old astronomical clock was amazing. The skeleton ringing the bell was so cool. This is definitely a must see when in Prague. We watched it a few times in the day and once again at night. I saw something different every time I watched it. The engineering behind it is so clever. Make sure you watch out for pick pockets though. We also paid to go up the Old Town Hall tower. The views were stunning. Really nice to see an overview of the old town. However, we were only up the tower for 5 mins and for 250CZK (about £9) it felt a bit over priced. We preferred the Old Town Bridge Tower with the view of Charles Bridge and Lesser town for only 100CZK (about £3.70).

Prague is a on of most beautiful cities in Europe, but its old town is a jewel in its crown.it is a pleasure to walk and explore charming narrow streets with amazing old building and churches full of souvenir and small restaurants. in central square is always crowd watching most attractive part of it - astronomical clock. it is great piece of engineering. it shows month (as per zodiac), day and time, however time on this clock is counting not from midnight, as we regular to count. it is counting from the sun set (or first star)of the day before, as per old Jewish tradition, where new day starts in evening with first star showing itself. So time in this clock depends of seasons.

Looks cool but you’ll probably find the history behind the clock a little more interesting than its hourly show which if somewhat underwhelming.

Tourists can spend up to 30 minutes waiting to see the hourly show. If you’re there, passing by and want to see it, don’t turn up more than a couple minutes to the hour.

Old Town Hall with its Clock in Old Town Square is worth a visit if you are in Prague, waiting for the Clock to function at the top of the hour is a must see/do. Just watch out for your pockets when the clock does it thing since everyone is looking up. Another must do is to pay for the views at the top of the tower, great view of the square from the top and of Prague, worth the price of the ticket!

We stayed in Prague for 5 days and every day we would venture to the old town, i love anything historic and for me it beat the roads with its numerous designer shops.
It gets very busy so you have to choose your times, great place to sit and people watch in one of the many cafes and obviously to watch the Astronomical clock do its thing.
The clock was installed in 1410 and is the third oldest Astronomical clock in the world and the oldest clock still working. The Astronomical dial represents the sun and moon, It has various statues of catholic saints on either side of it and on the hour gives a great performance of the Apostles walk also look out for the skeleton representing death.
There is a local legend that states the city will suffer if the clock is neglected.
