If you visit Prague, you're inevitably going to come to the Old Town Square. While it is very touristy, it is because it's home to many amazing sites--the Astronomical Clock, St. Nicolas's Church and the Church of Our Lady before Tyn, amongst others. There's always some buskers entertaining the crowds as well as a variety of street foods for sale.... More

First of all, the square by itself is absolutely beautiful, and when you add to its beauty the magical Christmas decoration and Christmas markets: you are basically walking into wonderland. We hired a carriage (80$) that gave us a tour (30mn) ending in the square. We Were literally under a spell. We souvenir shopped, ate Sausages as well as Prague's... More

A lovely old time square, cobbled streets. They were just setting up the Christmas market stalls, some were trading. There were more food stalls than craft wares, but we were there end of November, and just into December. Though it was early there was still the Christmas atmosphere. Prague is well worth putting on a wish list.

The old town Square in Prague is obviously where everything took place in yesteryear. At Christmas time it's turned into a centerpiece for Christmas markets commerce and tourism, and provides a great centerpoint to meet and greet and venture out for a great restaurant.

We actually walked the length of the Charles Bridge several times in getting from A to B. A very lively place, everybody and his mother stroll along, lots of musicians, vendors, acts, artists. You name it...they're on this bridge. It's a real slice of life in Prague.

The square is surrounded by beautiful buildings, really spectacular. Shame about the crowd... try to go very early to avoid the stampede

Another side of Prague old town square. They had the Christmas markets on, which were good fun. Loads of tourists. Don't forget to wear flat shoes because of the cobblestones. Great for history buffs.

Staying in Stare Mesto (Old Town)

Neighbourhood Profile
Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighbourhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.
