Neighbourhood: Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighbourhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.

Not sure it was worth the many spiral staircases…
We really wanted to see what promised to be a lovely Baroque library! However, locating the correct entrance to purchase tickets was a little tricky. It is in the courtyard, not the Main Street. Tickets are timed due to limited access. Earliest tickets gave us an hour wait. Of course it is a very old building, but the steps were pretty tough. The library room is dark, and you can only see it through glass windows from one perspective. Truly you can get a better sense of the space online. The tour includes many more and steeper steps to get to the top of the tower.

    Breathtaking place
The library is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. The tour takes just short of an hour and the guides are really good- our guide was articulate and helpful and could answer any question we asked. The building is really atmospheric and definitely worth a visit. However if you don’t have e-tickets booked in advance, you must make sure to be in queue to buy them in person by 9:00 at the latest- ticket office opens at 10:00, but unless you queue early, you may not get a ticket for that day (we arrived at 9:05 and there were already over 40 people waiting, so we just about managed to get the last available tickets).

    Beautiful
We had a lovely time! The library is just stunning, and the lady giving us the tour was very knowledgeable and easy to understand even for some of my family members who are not fluent in English. They also had written materials in other languages. The stairs were a bit challenging at times, but they gave people plenty of time to climb and enjoy the view. Highly recommend!

    Great Views! Great Tour!
I would recommend getting tickets in advance to avoid waiting in a long queue for a ticket. The tour lasts about 45 minutes, and takes you through to the Baroque Library and up multiple floors (with other attributes) to a stunning panoramic view of Prague. Our tour was given in English, but had information cards in a myriad of languages for others to follow on if they wished. I believe our tour guide was called Lukas? He was lovely! Incredibly helpful, very knowledgeable and engaging, answering everyones questions. It is worth noting that there is no lift available, and the majority of the climb is a spiral staircase. This is made known to you at the start :)

    Underwhelming tour
Everything others said about not being able to go inside the poorly lit library, rushed tour are true. It’s really not worth what you pay for. The tour guide showed us virtual photos of the interior of the library and that’s as close to the inside as you’re gonna get (hence everyone has the same photo of the library). The tiny area where you can see the library from outside is so small that each person has maybe 1 min to see it before they had to move out to make room for others. The view on the top was nice but the stairs were steep, it’s not for everyone. This is one of those things you do because it’s your first time in Prague but you’ll never want to revisit.

Beautiful and magical library and tower, gorgeous views and an absolutely brilliant tour guide!! While you dont cover much ground across the (huge) Klementinium complex, the tours provide tonnes of historical insight. Contrasting to some other tour guides we’ve had, our guide Miroslav was friendly, funny, passionate and had great English skills! Strongly recommend!

    Breathtaking views and historical interest!
We absolutely loved our tour of Klementinum! Our guide Julie was really lovely and enthusiastic and shared some interesting stories about the history of the library and the astronomers who have worked there over the centuries. The tower has a fantastic 360 view of Prague! Top tips: get your ticket in advance, otherwise you will probably have to come back later/another day! You can purchase them directly from the Klementinum website if you can’t get them through a tour company. The tour starts inside the ticket office so don’t be afraid to walk past the queue if you have purchased your tickets ahead of time. Slight warning: if you have mobility concerns, the tour includes walking up a number of very steep and in places uneven staircases! Be prepared to walk up 172 steps! Overall, we were very pleased that we went - it felt like quite a unique experience!

Prepare for a lot of stairs
We bought our tickets online so we could skip the line! The tour was very interesting, we had a pleasant guide. She gave us lots of information but not to many details We first went to the library. You can not enter the library but it is allowed to take pictures from the entrance where you have a nice view. After the library we went to the astronomical tower Be prepared for a lot of stairs !!! The astronomical tower was very interesting as well, we saw a lot of old astronomical instruments. Once we've reached the top, we got an amazing view over the city ! This guided tour is about 50minutes.

One if the highlights if Prague
Wonderful building, especially the library. Great tour guide (George) who explained things clearly in English, and who was ready to answer questions. Breath-taking view although struggled with the steep step. Do not go if you have impaired mobility. No toilets available.

A few minutes of divinity / spirituality / hygge not to be missed.

The library is quite simply profound. Yes, you have people shuffling for a view when you’d love it all to yourself. Yes, you can only step 6 feet in when you’d kill to browse the shelves. Yes, your time is up when all you want to loose yourself for days.

None of which changes the fact that this is one of the few transcendental buildings I’ve found. It won’t move you as much as the Pantheon and Luxor, because you can’t fully immerse yourself in it, but you can dream.

Operationally.

We booked skip the queue online a few days in advance, cost was SFA, got hotel to print the tix (but I’m guessing a screen shot / pdf woulda been fine too), arrived 3 mins before the tour time, nice older guy on desk explained exactly what to do (hang here a few mins and guide will be along) and right on time a pleasant young fella arrived and took us through. He talked a lot about the rules and that’s fine by me. He talked a little about what we saw and that’s fine too.

There are a few other elements to the tour and the view at the end really is a cracker.

You do this tour to get a few mins to step into the library and breathe it in. It’s an unforgettable few mins.

Bonus.

Thanks to my teenage son for translations of some of the Latin on the roof. Inc this one. “Science does not have enemies”.

Ok, I don't like to write bad reviews but in this case I just have to. There are so many great things to do in Prague but this is not one of them. At first entrance costs 200 CZK (about 7€) for students and 300 CZK (about 11€) for adults. I am student, with this money I could do a ton of less educate things, instead I chose to go to nation library. And I paid 7€. But that would be ok if the library was excellent. Now you would maybe expect to see a lot of books and beautiful interior when you go to national library right? No, instead you get a look through open doors at the library. That is it for the library. The interior in library is fine but you almost can't see any of it. The interior all around is awful and disgusting. Another part is the tour guide, you can't understand a word of what he is saying. They are totally unsynchronized so we waited like 20 minutes in total of the 50 minute journey. After a two minute look at the library you get to go to the tower. The view is ok but if you want to get a view of Prague try maybe going to the tower of Charles bridge (much less expensive + short museum of Charles bridge) or you can try the tower at Old Town Square. If you want to see a museum try the NaFilM museum at the Františkánské zahrady it's really great and interactive. In conclusion just don't go there, you can do much more fun stuff in Prague. 😊

I was not sure if I should rate this 1 star or two because the library itself is very nice...impressive actually but you can only see it from the fence on the doorway. We were lucky enough that we came right after COVID lock down so we were only 4 people in the group and could easily see it but I hear normal groups are 25 people and I can only imagine how hard would be to see and appreciate the room with so many people trying to get to the doorway.

Once you see the library you will see a few other rooms and climb to the tower with has nice views of the city but it is definitely not worth 300czk per person they are asking for a 40 minute tour.

After seeing photos and hearing about the amazing interior of this library we tried to go around lunchtime and were incredibly disappointed. Firstly it was really easy to miss the entrance for visitors, the main library can't actually be accessed as it's for university students only (even if you have an international student card). Secondly, to access the visitors library you have to have a tour guide and this only lasts 40 mins, no photography allowed which seems really restrictive. We had wanted to spend some time there ourselves viewing the library and reading but this was not an option. Also, there were no tours available until 7pm that day so it needs booking in advance if you do want to visit (otherwise it can be a few hours wait).

Staff at the visitors desk and working for the library were extremely rude and inpatient, they didn't seem like they wanted to speak to visitors at all and overall was a very unwelcoming experience. Such a shame for such a beautiful space, it feels wasted.

to start with there are some practical tips :
There are 172 stairs to climb to the top of the tower, no lift! Open from 10:00 to 17:00 (Thursday to Saturday till 17:30) The tours are only guided and take around 50 minutes . The tours are mainly in English, the Guided tour in Czech is run on Sunday at 11:00, The entrance fee: 300 CZK / around 14 USD. To be paid by cash or by credit card. Be advised there are no toilets as they are currently under reconstruction.

The tour comprise the Baroque library hall, Meridian hall and the Astronomical tower. Unfortunately you can fully get inside. Due to the better inner climate control you can just step into the doors and admire this stunning baroque room. NO pictures can be taken. Then you walk up the stairs to Meridian hall, a unique room where you can see how the noon used to be determined The light going through a small hole and falling on as string to determinate the high noon. The tour finishes in Astronomical tower which was used for astronomical observation till 1938 but know with excellent magnification view of Prague and countless church spires.

Imagine a tour that has a baroque library as its highlight but all you are permitted to do is stand in a crowd like a herd of unhappy livestock at the doorway of a dark room and get a brief glimpse from afar while inhaling the unmistakable stench of decay. Inside the hall, there are thousands of priceless works with presumably fascinating histories. However, this will forever remain a tantalizing mystery as your guide could not be less interested in the subject and seems to know surprisingly little about it. The tour then continues through a couple of (mostly empty) rooms with astronomical instruments that the guide seems just as uninterested in. After climbing a winding and rickety staircase that would likely fail any number of safety inspections, you are abandoned in a claustrophobic tower to contemplate what you ever did to deserve such a sad and expensive experience. Consider this a voice from the future seeking to save you from yourself and this awful waste of time and money: just walk away and go buy yourself an ice cream instead.

For the most costly tour so far (almost double of what the other ones cost) this was extremely disappointing, you see the library from a tiny corner and photos are forbidden, you spend about 5 minutes there anyway. Then comes the tower tour which, with overstuffed group they made, is extremely claustrophobic and you have no time to see anything. Basically you’re pushed around like a sardine for 40mins. Do not recommend.

My mother is a guide and she said that she can not recommend to anyone to visit this place. I have to agree with her. There are only english language guided tours if you'd like to "visit" the baroque library and these cost too much and show to little. "Visiting" the library means that you stand in the door of the room and are allowed to take a photo with your smartphone if the flash is turned off. This is illogical. If I can take a photo with a smartphone (that I personally do not own) why can't I take one with a real DSLR camera without flash? In St. Gallen, Switzerland we were not allowed to take photos - we had to put both the phones and the cameras in a box - but we could enter the room and walk among the books. Probably the gallery part of the complex could have worth it, but it was closed. As I could not use my camera I can not upload any photos of the library that would worth it.

Visiting the library is only possible with a guide and costs 8 eur per student. In my opinion, it is definitely not worth it. There is a wonderful view from the library tower, but that's it. Not allowed inside the library itself. Can only look through the door for about 5 min. So you can't see more than looking at pictures on the internet. It is also forbidden to take pictures.

A place with so much potential in the hands of a bad guide can really ruin a visit! The guide was totally uninspired, his English was terribly fast and poorly pronunciated, even after one participant asked for him to slow down. He was counting the minutes to finish the tour and his info sometimes vague like " Einstein did important things here". An absolute joke! A place as beautiful as the Klementinum deserves pationate people managing the tours and its guides! The guide's desmotivated speech ended up being more tiring than the multiple stair steps up!
