Interesting history behind this which replaced a short lived but huge statue of Stalin. However, it's looking a bit tired and uncared for now. There's an awful lot of graffiti and rubbish in the area around the metronome, although the park looks nice enough as are the views over the city and river. It's a short steep climb up steps or a path to get to the metronome.

Our guide took us here and explained that the Metronome replaced a huge statue of Stalin. It was a pretty interesting story about Prague emerging from the world of communism.

A wonderfully off beat alternative to the Funicular and Petrin Tower. The stairs are a challange though, so not for the faint hearted, or for you salad dodgers. Of course it doesn't really work that well or often, that much is obvious from the bottom. The place had become home to alternative youth sub cultures, there's plenty of graffiti but not in a threatening way and certainly less threatening that Joseph Stalin and the mega monument it replaced.
There is a lovely park at the top and walk along to the beer garden that towers over Prague with great views. The bar is cash only so take money, and if using the cash point around the corner be warned that it defaults to very large amounts, and issues very large note denominations.

In looking at what it is and what its about, it stands where there was once a Stalin statue was erected for the communist era and now symbolizes that time has moved on. Well, time has moved on its way past time for this this. The only reason we looked at it was we were in Letna park for the view. It wasn't working when we were there. There were a lot of people sitting and drinking around this and people skateboarding in the area behind it and a lot of rubbish and graffiti around. It was the least pleasant place I visited in my 4 days in Prague. Not worth it in my opinion.
The only decent thing about it is the view back down the Vltava river and its not far from Letna Beer garden.

Firstly, when I was there, there was a haze, that ruined all what I have expected for. Secondly, near to this place there is a better viewspot of the Danube River and with the Prague Castle in sight and I recommend to visit that one over this one. Lastly, there was a lot of litter everywhere and the Metronome itself was not working. Overall, I think that I would prefer to describe this place only as a meet-up point and that's it. I don't think that the Metronome is a necessity for picturing the Prague, while others and much better spots can be found around the city.

Large metronome erected up on the hill overlooking Prague, on the same site where the world's largest monument to Joseph Stalin once sat. After Stalin's death and fall from historical favor, the Czechs destroyed the Stalin statue in 1963. In 1991, after the collapse of the Soviet empire and the success of the Czech velvet revolution, the metronome was installed in the same location, meant to indicate that "time moves on; in time, all things pass."

Prague Metronome - a giant metronome in the situated on the Vltava River, it was built in 1991 on the site of the world's largest monument to Joseph Stalin, demolished in 1962.

The trip to the top of the hill is quite demanding, you have to climb the stairs if you are heading on foot from the center. The other option is transportation, for example, by cab, then the access through the park is much easier and you can do without climbing.

If you want to see and capture one of the most beautiful panoramas of the city then you absolutely must be there.

Very nice park. What's with European cities and their beautiful city parks? Lol. The views are spectacular. There was a film crew filming something. Maybe it was the hockey game. Lol

We went to the metronome on our bike tour with EcoTours (best tour ever) and the thing was busted. Even if it worked I doubt I would search it out.

It's worth visiting this to see the great views across the city and lovely surrounding park areas. The metronome itself is not very exciting!
