I wanted to show to my son, who turned the tide of WW2 in Czechoslowakia and who showed to western leaders that Czechoslovakia is not a collaborating country.
The downside of this place is a terrible location right next to the road through the city.

We were taken on this amazing tour by a very professional and personable guide named Lenka. My husband particularly wanted to do this tour and I went along hesitantly, unsure how I’d cope with what we saw. However, I was very glad I went. The tour started at the Church of St Cyril and Methodius, where we met up with Lenka. After a thorough look at the crypt and seeing inside the beautiful restored church we were taken by car to the area where Heydrich was assassinated, then to Lidice. We had a leisurely walk around Lidice, looking at all the memorials (such a moving experience) then were taken back to Prague.
We recommend this tour highly. The one thing missing was that Lenka did not mention the other village destroyed by the Nazis as retribution for the assassination. It would have been worthwhile to hear about that too. I also think it would have been better at that early hour if we had been picked up from our hotel as it was very chilly walking through the streets. However, that is a minor criticism and I saw later online that this is normally offered.

Lenka’s knowledge of these historical events and ability to communicate that was excellent as her command of English is exceptional. She went out of her way later to return my glasses to me and steadfastly refused to take any payment for this great kindness. Thank you again, Lenka!

I came here as I was in Prague at the time and had read about the operation of these brave men many years ago. Not much to see unless you know about the history of this event.Anybody who wants to come here I would recommend to read up on the operation first.

I went on this tour with family members who are World War II buffs and knew the history of this covert war operation that led to the assassination of Reinhold Heydrich, a high ranking Nazi administrator. I knew nothing about it beforehand but the guide was quite dramatic and pulled us into the story taking us to important locations where the operation was carried out and finally ended.

We drove past this monument on our way to and back from the concentration camp Terezin and our guide told us the story. During WWII only one high ranking Nazis official was ever assassinated and it was in Prague. A group of Czech paratroopers who had escaped to England before the take over of Czechoslovakia came back to Prague and assassinated Reinhard Heydrich at the spot of the monument. Their first attempt with a gun failed but a bomb was set off near his car and Heydrich died from the bombing wounds. Eventually the paratroopers were found in the basement of a chuch in Prague and flooded out. They fought until they had no chance and committed suicide. This is a monument to their effort.

If you know the story its interesting to go there and see the exact spot where operation Anthropoid was carried out. All though, there’s not much to see, because obviously the surroundings have changed through the years 😊

There’s a small memorial and a huge kobber pillar (statue if you prefer) - that’s it 😊

To know the history of the notorious Reinhard Heydrich and to be able to see the actual spot where he was killed makes it a worth while memorial. Its the actual spot but the roads have all been changed. You have to look for off street parking and the memorial sign is not in English. But still you may want to stand in the actual spot he was killed.

This memorial is a bit tricky to find (and stop) as it is on a very busy street. That being said, it is part of a much bigger story related to the killing of Heydrich by the Czech Resistance during WWII. Add the following to this story: Lidice (village close to Vaclav Havel International Airport). St. Cyril and St. Methodius Cathedral in Prague. This is where the paratroopers too refuge after the attempted assignation of Heydrich. Very moving and nice memorial in the Crypt of the church.

Watched move about Operation Anthropoid before trip to Prague. Fascinating story. Visiting the church and museum was a great follow up. Very informative and interesting to see the location of the events. A must see. No charge for visiting.
