Konopiste is around an hour away from Prague by train, then around half an hour walk from the station to the castle itself. There is a small shuttle train from the castle to the station and back, but I'm not sure how the schedule works. We came on a public holiday, so a lot of the tours were full already.... More

The interior of this castle, the last home of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, whose assassination led to World War I, is accessible by guided tour only (and requires tickets). The grounds and garden, however, are open to all free of charge.

This is a beautiful castle that was home to a loving family and it shows. It was also surprising to see the modern amenities like a lift and a bathroom with hot and cold running water and flush toilet. It's obvious that Franz was obsessed with hunting as there are over 4000 trophy's hanging on the walls. It has a... More

Rose garden is close in November, but castle is open, and whole gardens are available for walking and running. There are 2 restaurants and parking is for 60 crowns for whole day.

This is one of the nicer castles we have visited in Czechia. It is situated on a hill in a nice park, near a small lake. The place is very well kept, and the English guide was quite knowledgeable. This was the last residence of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, whose assassination in Sarajevo triggered WW-I. It is similar... More

Located in just an hour ride from Prague Konopiste castle is definitely an attraction for the history lovers. The tremendous number of weapons and hunting trophies are presented in the castle museum. The huge park around the castle is also a worth going place.

We decided to visit from Prague on a day trip . Just over an hours train ride, we got off at Benesov and caught a bus from bus station just across the road.its only about 10 min ride. There are tours around the castle starting in the courtyard . It was the last residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand , and... More

We chose the tour of the private residence and are glad we did. You get a wonderful sense of the loving family who lived here and it brings the place into real life. The tour was not offered in English so we were part of a small Czech group and we accompanied them with an English audio guide. It worked... More

It was closed when we arrived (we knew this). For history buffs, there's an exhibition of Arhdukes Fraz Ferdinand's uniform (that he was wearing when he was murdered) as well as the actual bullet that killed him. You can also walk a bit in the surrounding park. Nice views of the castle from the eastern side of the lake.

We decided to visit two castles outside of Prague, this the first one. We went by train which is only an hour to Benešov u Prahy which is the closest train station. However its another 30 min walk from station to the castle, though through a nice park. I say castle, it's more of a mansion. There are four tours... More
