If you enjoy watching Country File on TV, then a visit to Gaston Farm will really bring it to life for you. Slindon, although fantastically pretty, is a tiny village and I wondered if I might be the only visitor - I was really beginning to feel uncomfortable by the time I turned off the main road.... so I was delighted to see perhaps a couple of hundred cars already parked in the field when I arrived. This is a truly popular and welcoming place. We were warmly greeted by volunteers who gave us a run down of what was happening and made us feel at home. We were there at lambing time and believe me you get to see it all. Moving around the various pens you see informative posters advising about husbandry and the different stages from conception to birth. There were great refreshments, hot and cold, available in the barn, alongside craft demonstrations and an area for small children to hold baby animals. Proceeds from open days go to support communities abroad and there are diaries and photo displays to show the progress made in helping those less fortunate. "Grumpy Farmer" and his family made a point of chatting to visitors and helping them guess which ewe might be the next to lamb. We stayed about three hours and I was reluctant to leave.

A wonderful experience for the grandchildren, to see new-born lambs (and maybe being born) and also the chance to handle and (gently) hug them as well. The staff there were very helpful, and explained fully whenever we had questions. Cost was £6.00 per person, no reductions for OAPs and under-5s.

You can’t complain when it’s £6 entry and it’s a wonderful half day out. It’s great for all ages. My 8.5month old loved the sheep, absolutely adored the ducks! I as an adult found it amazing that lambs were being born while we were there. You could feed the sheep, hold baby lambs, hold baby chicks and baby ducks. The food from the cafe is lovely and cheap!
Nice outdoors picnic area not that you get to use it much with out beautiful English weather!
Staff were very friendly. Very child and baby friendly. Can easily use pram/pushchair.
Great family day out. Highly recommend.

We have been to Gaston farm every year for the last few years, and each time it’s a great day out for everyone kids and adults alike, to see the faces of the children when they get to hold a baby lamb and a chick is wonderful. The tractor ride is also great.
The whole day is fantastic value for money, I think it was around £6 per person including the tractor ride the cafe is very reasonably priced, as is the gift shop, it is quite refreshing to visit somewhere where the prices haven’t been inflated just because they can ! I can’t wait to take the kids again this year. I would highly recommend this place.

Get down to Gaston Farm if you want to see lambing close up.
Everyone there is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the farm and it's livestock.
Very reasonably priced food all served with a smile.
Don't forget to go on the tractor ride where you will also get some local history thrown in by the driver.
If you want value for money, good old fashioned fresh air fun and see new life coming into the world, then Gaston Farm is a must

My son and I had a lovely visit to the farm. We saw triplets being born from a mother who was suffering with magnesium deficiency. The shepherd had to step in as she was unable to feed her lambs due to lack of energy. There were other things to do at the farm. My son got to cuddle a lamb, hold a duckling and go on a tractor ride or two. Good food at reasonable prices. Would visit again.

We visited here Easter Sunday and enjoyed a couple of hours on the farm. The tractor ride is lovely and the set up is great for getting close to the lambs, chicks and ducklings. It wasnt too busy so my daughter got lots of turns to hold the chicks. We have been here before and always been impressed. The volunteers are very good however left a little dissapointed by one this year, a young chap in the lambing section handing out the lambs to those who wanted to hold them. My daughter was waiting to be passed a lamb and as he got one and came over he was spoken to by another member of the public. He stood there holding the lamb he was about to put on my daughters lap and continued his conversation first leaving us waiting......all well and good had the conversation not been about how they "Have a bolt put to the head" obviousldy describing how they end up being killed and what is involved. I appreciate this is sadly the reality of what happens to some of the lambs but felt it a really unneccesarty conversation to have in front of children and whilst holding the lamb in his arms as we waited for him to finish describing a lambs final moments. Wasnt impressed by tis and luckily i do not think my daughter heard the conversation otherwise that couild have potentially been quite upsetting.
