We loved the local feel of this natural area. As experienced trail runners and hikers we expected to run most of this but ended up having our flat lander Florida as*es kicked by the steep up and downs. 2.5 hours to do 10k. But we were the only humans on the trail and it was just what we needed to follow a long and somewhat hideous travel day.
Bring insect repellent and a towel to shower afterwards. Bathrooms were spotless. Trails well marked.
Friendly attendant earned bonus points for cold fresh wedges of watermelon when we finished. Yum!
$6 U.S. per person. A bargain!

Spectacular place. River, trails, great view of Golfo de Nicoya, lots of trees by the trails.
There is a big tree on the trail, big rocks and trees that grew on the rocks. You can swim in the river where the hanging bridge is, the water is clear and fresh. The owners of the place gave us fruits before and after the hike. Very safe and clean place.
You can walk for about 4 hours or less.

I've have visited Piedra de Fuego at least 3 times since I found out about the place.
Having the Barranca river at only 5km is only one of the things I love about it.
Last time I was there, to my surprise I saw they have built an awesome hanging bridge on top of the creek.
I'm a big fan of taking pics of nature, and in Piedra de Fuego I've been able to spot several different birds, monkeys, mushrooms and one time I heard the sound of a tapir or danta pretty close to the trail.
Ohh and almost forgot to mention the availability of natural spring water at a couple of spots.
It's also a great place to take your dog, just keep in mind it would be a total of 10 km of trail with a few mildly steep climbs.

Piedra de Fuego offers a wide variety of paths and trails for any taste. Deep forests, valleys, rivers and riverbeds, waterfalls, fields and much more. It never got boring. We took the long trail and if i remember right it took us about 3+ hours by foot. Time flew by and we enjoyed every moment with taking breaks at the waterfalls, bridges and the river. Besides the amazing scenery we got to see a wide array of animals, like monkeys, iguanas, insects and beautiful birds. I recommend everybody to go there be it for team building purposes, a long afternoon escape, by bike or to stroll the paths.
