We learnt a great deal on this tour today at the Mercara Gold Estate thanks to a passionate guide. The tour lasted about 35 minutes and the guide was patient and answered all our questions. We enjoyed looking at the three types of coffee trees being grown on the estate namely Arabica, Robusta and Liberica. Coorg primarily has Robusta coffee trees which produces a strong coffee. We also enjoyed seeing the variety of spice trees being grown on the estate including pepper, cardamon, clove, bayleaf and cinnamon.

We also liked the coffee served at the end of the tour.

We picked up some civet coffee and honey at the cafe/ store.

The tour is priced at Rs 200 for adults and Rs 100 for children.

The plantation tour was amazing and fun. Without a doubt it was too informative and Ravi made sure to add a taste of fun to the same. A minimal charge of INR 200/- per head is all it took to take the tour along with an informative guide.
After the tour they serve a complimentary hot filtered coffee, but I chose to go for the paid cold coffee as it was too hot.
The coffee they made was the best cold coffee I ever had that I ended up ordering another one. Must try.
The handler for making this coffee and for guiding us with buying coffee beans was a fun guy too. He got us the best of beans, grinded the coffee in front of us and made sure to make it a memorable trip to Mercara Estate.

We recently visited Mercara Gold Estate after they had opened and were highly satisfied with the experience. We had set up the Plantation visit earlier along with a lunch with the owners and were warmly greeted by Ravi, Murugesh and Yashoda at the property. They were all donned with face masks and had full sanitization procedures in place as we entered.
After a refreshing round of filter coffee produced in their estate, Ravi took us for a plantation walk around the 12.5 acre property.
Extremely knowledgeable, patient and friendly, Ravi explained the different varieties of coffee that the estate grows, liberica, arabicca and robusta varieties and their differences along with harvestingand manufacturing processes. The plantation is a treasure trove of spices and exotic plants. We found vanilla, cocoa, green pepper, birds eye chilli, kaffir lime, cardamon, cinnamon to name a few and each and every plant was explained to us with its uses and growth. The complete tour took us more than an hour as we strolled leisurely in the well maintained plantation.
Once we were back, he took us to the small factory set up and explained the various stages to manufacture coffee.
The plantation also does the world's most expensive 'Coffee Civet'.
'Beans-n-Brew' their inhouse Cafe also has a small retail section wherein you can purchase freshly grounded coffees, spices and more.
They then treated us to a fabulous lunch which consisted of akki roti, coorgi chicken curry, daal, rice and a vegetable. Yashoda is a fabulous chef and we were licking off the last morsels from our plate. The taste, flavour and presentation were all 5/5.
Ravi and Murugesh are exceptional hosts and their hospitality was top notch.
As there aren't many places open and safe to venture out this one of a kind experience was definitely a memorable one to cherish.

We were completely touched by the team gesture. I had accidently dropped gold bracelet and i was unaware of it. But the manager had called us to inform about the gold bracelet that they found at the reception.

It is very difficult to find such honest people or team in today's generation.

They had offered us coffee multiple times and explained us about the plantation and coffee processing so well.

Looking at their maintenance and plantation process we have bought so many spices for entire family and friends.

We are really grateful to Mr. Bichitra, Mr.Murgesh and Mr. Ravi for the help and would strongly recommend others to visit this place.

The plantation tour was very interesting and incredibly good value. Our guide, Ravi, was very knowledgeable and friendly. The tour lasted about 30 minutes and included a range of plants and produce as well as a delicious coffee from the cafe at the conclusion. The whole team was very friendly and happy to answer any further questions we had. There is also the opportunity to purchase a number of finished products and spices from the cafe post tour.

If your keen on knowing more about coffee, spices and other condiments, this is the place to be... Ravi is the tour guide who took us on an hour tour covering the plantations, integrated roasting complex and complimentary tasting... His knowledge is really commendable and genuine... The place also has a small cafe for having coffee and buying authentic coffee and spices as souvenirs from Madikeri

We were on the third day of our Coorg trip and we decided to end it with a tour of the coffee plantations. After looking up online and getting in contact with various other estates we came across this place. The lady on the other side of the call was very polite and guided us to the location of the estate. Upon arriving and completing our registration process we were accompanied by Mr.Ravi through the entire property as he explained about the various plantations they had over there. Mr.Ravi not only gave us a general knowledge about the plants but also informed about the history and processing of the products after harvesting. We found him to be very knowledgeable. You have to climb a bit as the plantations are on an incline. You do get out of breath but it is worth it. Later Mr.Ravi took us to the place where the coffee is roasted and packed. Our tour then ended with a cup of the best filter coffee I have ever had. We were disappointed as Coorg doesn't have much to see. But a visit to this estate made our trip worth it. (They also have a cafe next to the entrance where you can have coffee and also purchase their coffee, spices etc.) Kudos to the team at Mercara Gold Estate, it is a lot of hardwork in getting the coffee from the plants to our cup.

A very good experience. Mr.Ravi who guided us through the visit was very knowledgeable and explained really well about coffee and spices cultivation. He made the visit very much engaging with the way he detailed many things about the origin of coffee. Now I have a better idea to choose a coffee from the options available in market :). I would definitely recommend this visit.
