A simple beautiful church in a picturesque square
This church is located in the old Moorish part of Ronda. It’s in the lovely square: Plaza de la Duquesa de Parcent, near the Town Hall. On the site of the church stood the well-preserved myrrh of the main mosque. Inside you can see some parts built in Renaissance and Gothic style. It’s worth to visit.

A mosque convert to a church
The church of Santa María la Mayor de Ronda is a special church. It was originally built in the 14th century as a Muslim Mosques. Its distinctive tower and front facade make the church look more like a city hall than a church.

    Another beautiful church
You may come across this church h on your walk around Ronda. It is certainly worth going in and admiring the ornate and golden carvings. There is also a roof terrace but I did not go up. Note that there is an entrance fee. Also there are so many ornate churches in Southern Spain that individually they are easy to forget.

    Peaceful church
Beautiful quiet church in Ronda. When we visited in November I think there were many 3 other people there. Nominal fee to get in. As with many churches you can climb to the top and enjoy the panoramic vista of the town. It was very peaceful and nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of our day. Worth the quick visit. Enjoy.m

We were walking around Ronda using VoiceMap which suggested that if you were going to visit any church in Ronda this was the most recommended. So in we went and paid our 3 euros entrance fee. It is an historic church rebuilt on the site of a mosque and housed the usual chapels and altar pieces but for us the best part was going through the door which simply said access to terrace. It was a steep climb up a spiral staircase and we were definitely out of breath by the top but it was well rewarded when we emerged on to the wooden platform that encircled 3 sides of the church. There were views across the surrounding tiled rooftops and to the countryside beyond and was a lovely place to sit for a while. There was also a small door which allowed entrance onto a small platform that looked down upon the interior of the church.
We also spotted a sign to the crypt which was not of itself that exciting but there was an exhibition of copies of illuminated manuscripts and also a temporary photographic exhibition.

We were asked to pay more than the entrance fee - told them I didn't want to buy it. having said that the trip up and around the roof was instructive

Monday 9th May we were sightseeing and exploring in the mountain Town of Ronda.

This beautiful old Church is one of the many delights to be discovered. It is located along the picturesque Plaza Duquesa de Pargent in the centre of the Town.

The Church is built on the site of a former Mosque. The remains of the mihrab, a niche in the wall, the nearest point to Mecca, is preserved .

One of the most outstanding features of the Church is it's tall and ornate multi layered clock and bell tower. Another feature are the small arches on the ground level with a covered veranda and ballustrades above.

Sadly when we visited here the Church was closed, so we did not get the opportunity to see inside. We did stop for a short while to admire this beautiful old Church.

Nice church built on top of an older mosque which has a trump card in its outside viewing deck on three sides giving views (not of the bridge) over Ronda. Open another door and you have a small balcony overlooking the interior of the church. Entrance was 4.50 EUR.
