It is worth the drive from Kahului to waihee. The road gets a bit narrow and windy once you leave the main road. There is a parking lot at the top and additional overflow. It is part of a ranch so you will cows roaming...More

This was a fairly tough hike up the ridge, but the views were stunning. The trail, itself, is quite well maintained, but quite steep. Bring lots of water!

...but I don't know from personal experience. Unfortunately, we went on a drizzly, overcast day. Luckily, I had researched in advance and knew that it would spoil the views, but the weather on our trip was so weird that we were willing to sacrifice the...More

It's a hike, not a walk. We brought our hiking boots as this was on our target list and they helped a lot with a sometimes muddy trail. But the views are stunning...everything we had hoped for in a Hawaii hike. Views deep into gorges,...More

As someone else mentioned, this is an AMAZING free thing to experience while on Maui. This hike is listed as "moderate" on other sites, but I would go as far to say it's strenuous (and I'm a runner). I didn't read anything about the hike,...More

Great free trail. Only hiked half way, but the views were incredible. You could see other mountains, the coast, and the ocean. First hill is very steep, but after that it's much easier. Trail was easy to follow the entire time. Plenty of parking by...More

Fantastic hike in Maui. Easy to get to the trail head where there is a nice size parking lot and portapotties. The trail starts out on this super steep concrete slab but quickly transitions to forest once you get past it. Has several lookouts along...More

This is a fantastic hiking option for those who get carsick easily and find the road to Hana undesirable. The first 100 steps are the hardest/steepest of the hike. When we went in September, there were no issues of slipping on the path. We did...More

February, 2017, first 3/4 to 1 mile was very muddy. Trail had been closed several weeks after a rainy December. Begin the climb early in the day because clouds can move in in the afternoon obscuring the spectacular view. Wear shoes with traction, and take...More
