The Incan ruins were interesting, but the Views from several thousand feet above the Sacred Valley were beyond fantastic.

a beautiful place, an inca trail without many visitors, in the way you can see potato crops and people grazing their animals and when you get to uchuy qosco you can see the impressive sacred valley, a place forgotten by peaple ofthis culture. is it worth doing it.

Yes yes yes.
Smaller version of Machu Pichu. I liked it better because only three other people at this historical and important Inca site. I arrived here after a two day hike or you can drive here and walk 30 minutes from car.

Lovely inka place. We went up and had lucnh with a wonderful view. Frime there you can see a lot of mountains.

It was such a lovely spot to rest at and enjoy a locally prepared lunch with my G Adventures guide. The money collected (and tip) go towards the local community there so it was a "win" "win" for both of us.

I started at Lake Piuray and hiked 15km before reaching Huchuy Qosco. The trek is relatively easy and the views into the sacred valley are fantastic. The entrance to the ruins is 7 Soles and there are hardly any tourists around. The nicest views are just above the ruin when following the path uphill.

My girlfriend and I visited Huchuy Qosco during a beautiful day hike in August 2018. We stayed at a hostel in Urubamba (B&B Valcava) and chose to take a cheap colectivo to Chinchero (less than 10 soles) from where we took a cheap taxi (I think we paid 15 soles) to the starting point of the hike, a very small place called Taucca. We read about other possible ways, e.g. going to Taucca from Cusco or starting the trek in Lamay (wouldn't recommend it), but we decided to do it from Urubamba as we used this place as a base for multiples hikes in the valley.
In Taucca, there are two starting points within 100m which are both marked by a big painted wall with some facts about the hike, so it is easy to find the starting point. The host of our accomodation was even so nice to lend us his GPS, but it turned out to be not needed for this hike.
From Taucca, we hiked up for a few hours to reach a pass at roughly 4400m before descending to Huchoy Qosco again. From the pass, you can see snow-capped mountains in both directions and there are some lakes up there. Even though it was a bit chilly at this altitude, it was very nice to rest there for a bit and enjoy the beautiful landscape.
The landscape was beautiful and both sides of the pass are quite different, the vegetation changed quite rapidly when we descended to Huchuy Qosco and a lot of hummingbirds were scared up by our arrival. Furthermore, we did not see any other hikers on the trail besides some people walking around at the actual site. Thus, it was a very peaceful and beautiful hike.
As we are both way more into hiking than history, we more or less skipped Huchoy Qosco on our way downwards. Furthermore, we did not really want to spend the entrance for looking around for a few minutes, so we decided to hike around the site without paying any entrance.
From Huchuy Qosco,we hiked down to the city of Lamay where you need to cross a bridge to get to the center where the colectivos start. The downhill hike was not as bad as expected as we read about how tough and steep it would be. Of course, hiking downhill for approximately 2 hours is not that nice but it was very manageable. Starting from Taucca, the whole hike took as between 6 and 7 hours and it was a pleasant hike. If you are used to a bit of hiking and your stamina is okay, the hike shouldn't be a problem.
From Lamay, we took colectivos back to Urubamba. It might make sense to take a first colectivo to Calca and then a second one to Urubamba as it seems that direct colectivos to Urubamba are not running that frequently.
In a nutshell: Beautiful, peaceful longer hike - highly recommended. This was probably one of my best day hikes.

and my family have just visited this great Inca ruin, we did a 3 days trek ending in Machupicchu, we hired from home the services of Local Trekkers Peru and it was a good choice, our guide Raul was very professional, very knowledgeable and expert in mountain routes.
The walk on days 1 and 2 is hard, so I recommend everyone stay a few days in Cusco to acclimatize before doing this trek. Everything was very well arranged with Local Trekkers so if you are looking to do this trek, and you want to hire a good company don’t hesitate to contact them, you will have a great Experience

I thought I was in good shape, but the altitude can clobber you. Take altitude pills at least a day before arriving into the Cusco area to adjust. Drink lots of water and bring a ziplock bag with toilet paper to avoid leaving any litter on the trail. Wear hiking or biking gloves. I fell along one of the paths and fell in prickers but the gloves really helped reduce the pain. Wear super comfy hiking boots (light weight and water proof), pack a cheap throw away plastic poncho for quick rain showers. healthy snacks are a must and a great guide. The views are outstanding and it's important to respect the path and leave it clean. Although this was by far much harder then Machu Picchu our family loved every step of the way including our 2 teenage kids. Machu Picchu is about 8k feet and this is 14k so the altitude made a big difference. Do not overpack a backpack to overload yourself. I switched to a Safari vest at Machu Picchu to evenly distribute the weight and it made a huge difference. Take lots of pics and stop to enjoy the view. Breath! Remember to keep breathing. Oh don't forget walking sticks if you think you will need them.
