Thr Elephant Conservation Center markds a new era for conservation of the Asian elephant within the Lao PDR and offers a unique experience to visitors wishing to contribute towards the preservation of an endangered species. The first of its kind in Laos, the Center is not another elephant camp but an innovative approach that combines conservation of an endangered species with eco-tourism. Minimum stay is overnight, however we recommend our 2 night package to experience all the activities and truly enjoy this tranquil part of the world. Volunteer experiences, 6 nights/7 days are also available. Now we have our own minivan departing Luang Prabang daily at 8am and it takes you back the following day or days arriving Luang Prabang 4.30pm. It is only a 2 hour journey from Luang Prabang, Laos' UNESCO World Heritage listed town.

This center, for which I paid almost $500 for a high touch experience, is a high watch experience, at the opposite end of what I expected. To their credit, they were kind enough to help me get rebooked elsewhere but allowed me to stay overnight. The grounds are nice, the lake trip by boat lovely. It's a beautiful place. But... More

I'm on the fence about this place in many ways. I feel like I don't have enough information to say that it is a "worthwhile cause" (cause the people running it were not all there during the holidays and the local staff and volunteers just weren't able to answer everyone's questions.) Is this a business or nonprofit? Is there a... More

My wife and I spent a couple weeks in Southeast Asia, visiting Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. The Elephant Conservation Center was really the reason we chose to add Laos to our itinerary, as we had read great things about the center here on TA. After our time there, we could not have really been more disappointed with the service, facilities,... More

The center is located in a very calm lovely setting with all buldings made of wood, bambou and straw ( except the so called hospital, entirely made of metal, dusty, nearly empty and probably not used for a long time). The center has 6 elephants (and 1 male presently not visible, kept in the forest as in musth) plus 2... More

I am so glad I made the effort to get to the Elephant Conservation Center. I was a bit nervous about taking a local bus by myself (if you are there during festival seasons make sure you get to the bus station an hour early - it leaves when it is full) but it ended up being a wonderful, wonderful... I cant tell how much I loved our visit to Elephant Conservation Center. It was fantastic - everything about it. We did the day trip and got to ride on the elephant up the trail, give them a mud bath, and then bathe them in the river. The elephants were treated great. The mahouts loved the elephants and their job.... More

I simply can't say enough wonderful things about my visit here. I have visited 3 elephant conservation centers in SEAsia (2 in Cambodia) and all were wonderful experiences ...but for me, this was the best. Was it because it was the first one I'd ever been to? Or was it the wonderful setting? Or was it the wonderful vet staff?... More

We are a family of 5 (three kids, aged 11-16) who spent 3 days/2 nights here. It was the highlight of the trip - many happy memories, new experiences, education, and quick love, compassion, and also sadness for what must be the plight of so many elephants NOT in the ECC. The ones here are so lucky - is it... More

We just got back to Luang Prabang after our 2 night stay and couldn't wait to tell everyone else about it. After seeing lots of advertising for riding and swimming with the elephants in the local tour guide shop fronts and seeing people ride them at Tad Se falls right in front of us, it was refreshing to find out... It was a unique experience to spend some time with these huge beautiful and special animals. This place is totally respectful with the Elephants and will hopefully be able to continue to contribute to protect them. You will stay in a perfect place in the middle of the nature with nice bungalows. Everything was really nice, thank you and especially... More
