This is a fantastic short activity to enjoy if you’re in the area. Located on the outskirts of Otavalo, it's a must-add to your itinerary. The walk to the waterfall takes about 15-20 minutes (or 10 if you’re a brisk walker). Expect to get pleasantly damp from the waterfall's mist, so don't forget to bring a poncho or rain jacket. Recently, a local has been charging 50 cents to get up close for a cool photo op, so have some change handy. It's definitely worth it for the experience.

The Peguche Waterfall is a recreational environmental area, made up of the protective forest, with an area of 40 hectares, a tourist reference due to its attractiveness, heritage value and level of acceptance by visitors, tourists and hikers.
We can also visit small suitable pools in the lower part, next to the river. During the Inti Raymi festivities, the Peguche waterfall is the ceremonial center for the purification ritual. In it, dancers from various communities bathe in its waters starting at 8 at night before starting the dances.
This waterfall, 30 meters high and 6 meters wide, is formed on steep slopes.

A well maintained trail and easy walk to the Cascada was enjoyable and the opportunity to see the flora. Once at our destination, we took some photos and cooled off with the mist from the falls. We're glad we took this side trip to see more of the landscape and since it doesn't take much time, we recommend it. We would not go out of our way to visit the Cascada.

The walk to get to the entrance was clean and well kept. The entry donation is $0.50 per person - quite reasonable. Once inside, there are some short but pretty trails to get the waterfall. The waterfall itself was pretty and had a couple different look out points. Leaving the waterfall, they had a few activities for kids and teens, including a a zip line swing. Definitely work a stop if you are in Otavalo.

The Cascada de Peguche is a recreational environmental area, where the activities that are most carried out are hiking, camping and resting. It is one of the places considered one of the most representative native peoples of Ecuador, with customs, traditions and ancient beliefs.
It is a super nice place to spend an afternoon camping with the family, highly recommended.

The waterfall of peguche, a very touristic place in the city of otavalo since its continuous waterfalls are very beautiful accompanied by the immense flora that surrounds them, it is surprising a very beautiful place where you can go with your family to walk and spend a day quiet and fun since it has a place for outdoor barbecues and two pools naturally formed by waterfalls. A beautiful place to visit during carnival time.

The Peguche waterfall is in the city of Otavalo. It is a magical place full of humble and respectful people. We can live a moment of peace with nature. Also, when walking in its surroundings, it is very quiet and we can go with the whole family or with friends. It is definitely a place that everyone should visit because it is a very clean and full of new things.

My first comment about this place is to ignore the google maps the directs to the top of a track / rough road. You end up at the top of the falls, you cant see them from here. Search for the Solar calendar and then follow the trail to the falls. (we weren't the only people making this mistake, we saw a few other cars heading up the same track as us.) One other thing, there is a sign ½ way back towards Otavalo that points to the Condor park over the small river, DO NOT TAKE IT, it is a proper off road deeply creviced track. Even in our 4x4 we didn't tackle it.
OK, the falls themselves. Super cheap to get in, $2 for the family. Still a lot of sanitising going on here, there is an overhead spray as you walk in to the square, then they ask you to sanitise as you enter the falls area.
You then can walk around the well maintained trails towards the falls, there are a few up and down choices, if you follow the crowd (there will be one) you'll end up at the bridge to cross the river at the base of the falls. Lots of good view points. Lots of local and international tourists too. On the other side of the falls are a few food and gifts shacks. Nicely underdeveloped! please don't let it change!

This place is amazing. Much more than just a waterfall. You can hike around the area and see amazing foliage. If you hike it is a lovely walk from downtown-- about 4 km.
