Visited here on a cruise ship excursion to Lake Bracciano, which included a stop in Anguillara Sabazia. Basically just a drive by of the beautiful Lake, and the stop in the town was a waste of time for most of us except those who wanted to buy food or drinks or use a restroom (buy something to eat or drink and free restroom use is granted). The town is picturesque from afar, but exceptionally hilly and unwalkable for most people in our group. Except for the restaurants and bars along the promenade, there are no other shops. Unless you're planning a beach day or need to fuel yourself with more food or drink, I would skip this as a cruise ship excursion.

Took my kids here for an impromptu day trip as they were growing weary of the city. The walk down to the lake is scenic if you take the road. If you take the path it’s pretty steep and wooded area. There are restaurants on the beach that are all good choices. Worth the trip. Nice walk- great views. Black beach sand. Cute town with lots of choices to eat and shop.

Just returned from a trip to this area of Italy. There are 3 main towns around the lake : Bracciano , Trevignano Romano & Anguillara . It's an idea place for swimming or simply lazing around as the water is crystal clear & motor boats are banned. There are some beautiful restaurants & ice cream stores located right by the lakeside too. Only 1 hour into Rome by road or train would recommend a holiday in this area to all.

We spent a couple of hours walking along the lake shores enjoying the stunning views. Plenty of activities for families, or you can just simply enjoy the peace, tranquility and beauty of the lake. You can sunbathe and swim, take a pedalo out onto the water or enjoy a pizza, pasta or gelato from the multitude of eateries around the lake. Easily make a day of it. Also a lovely route to drive around.

A beautiful clean lake, great views, not too developed. A fantastic lakeside club (www.centrosurfbracciano.it) with private beach, lovely English and Italian speaking owners/ instructors, with a real friendly family feeling. Full facilities for rental of windsurf, sailing, kayak, Stand-up-paddles, showers, toilets, changing, deckchairs, umberellas, equipment storage. Good safety equipment and rescue boat. Nice restaurants nearby. A perfect day out, wind or no wind.

On our trip to Bracciano we took a regional train from Trastevere Roma to the wonderful, sleepy, hilltop town of Bacciano. The train ride did not take long and with our weekly (CIS Biglietti) ATAC ticket it was very cheap for a day return. Once we arrived at Bracciano station we walked towards the centre of the town. It was a quiet, sleepy place (perhaps due to our arrival time) but we soon stumbled across the main piazza of the town. Here we had a good view of the castle (Castello Orsini-Odescalchi) that dominates this hill top town.

Strolling round from the Piazza we then headed up towards the castle and the surrounding buildings situated in the castle ramparts. The streets were very quaint and picturesque with many of the Italian homes adorned with plants and vines which made them very pretty. Once near the top there was a church (Chiesa di Santo Stefano) which unfortunately was closed when we visited. Turning back on ourselves we could just see the lake in the distance so continued to follow this path down to the most amazing viewing point. From here we had the most spectacular views over Lake Bracciano. It was very peaceful and beautiful with no other tourists crowding around to get the best shot of the lake. We were very lucky that we had lots of time to simply take in the views and to enjoy just being there as well as taking some of the best photographs of our trip.

After taking in the view of the wonderful lake we were desperately in need of some refreshments and stopped for a drink in a small bar/café (called Piccadilly) situated in the piazza (Piazza Giuseppe Mazzini) that overlooks the castle. The staff were very friendly, the drinks were cheap and the service was very good. It was lovely to just take everything in around and of course to see the castle that is now famous for Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ Wedding Venue – indeed a very beautiful setting that is hard to beat!

This was a wonderful, relaxing day out of crowded Rome. We really enjoyed Bracciano and hope to return on our next trip to Italy.

This lake is only about half an hour away from Rome (by car), and seems to magically appear after fields and fields when you least expect it to. The City of Bracciano is really a village, and a nice one at that. There is an ancient castle and an incredible view down to the lake. You can take a train from Rome-Ostiense station (FR3 line nice with airconditioning!) and get off directly in Bracciano in less than 40 minutes which makes it great for a day trip. There are many good restaurants in the village which typical local food options and fish. Walk through the ancient cobbled streets and check the daily menus that are on offer. Make sure to see the terrace just behind the castle, from there you have the best view of the lake. Also close by is Anguillara which is great to visit if you have a car, its only ten minutes away and is on the other side of the lake.

We have visited Lago Di Bracciano 3 years in a row because we love the chilled out vibe and the variety of towns around the lake. The lake is best appreciated if you spend a day at each part to enjoy the differences. Start from the town of Bracciano and head down to their beach. There is a 1 way route once you hit the main beach area. There are a number of shops and cafes at the beach front and the boat jetty for doing the lake trip is also there. The beach has Bracciano Castle in the background and is quite picturesque. The prices for sunbeds and parasols vary from place to place but they are cheaper here than at Anguillura Sabazia I think. There are pedalos and sailing boats out and about but they don't interfere with swimming. The water is shallow for a good distance and it is a nice chilled place to pass a day. Anguillura Sabazia further along the lake is close to the old walled town so there is an extra dynamic to this beach if you want to take a break and head up through the gates of the town for a little exploring. There are a couple of beach cafes along the way. The shore and beach are rockier though and harder to walk into for swimming so crocs or lake shoes are handy. There is a jetty stop for the lake trip here also, up close to the town itself. In July it was departing once a day late afternoon on weekdays and takes 1 hr 40 mins round trip of the lake, stopping at Trevignano Romano, Anguillura Sabazia and Bracciano. It is cheap to do the round trip and is a great way to see the lake and 3 towns. Beware though, the times displayed are not kept properly up to date and their website doesn't always keep real time updates either! I recommend the boat trip if you can manage to work out the times as it is peaceful, panoramic and no announcements or commentary to interfere with your quiet. The boat has a roofed area also which is great if you are avoiding strong sun.
Finally, Trevignano Romano. The beach is easy going but I preferred the other two. However, it's a great town which comes particularly to life in the evening time. Plenty of restaurants, a lively local outdoor bowls club that loves an audience, trampolines for the kids and a pretty old town.
All in all, the lake area has a fabulous chilled out vibe and you can spend a few lovely days here feeling at ease.

Only a short train ride from Rome north railway system, this small town overlooking the fantastic lake with crystal clear waters AND a real medieval castle that you can visit after only 10 min walk from the train station!
A nice restaurant at the foot of the castle (for the more touristy) and a roasted pork stand few steps down!
Don't miss this nice day trip when in Rome!

This lake is well worth a visit, but you need your own car. Good swimming, best from beaches at Trevignano and Bracciano lakefront. Plenty of good restaurants as well. The most picturesque town of the three lakeside villages and with a georgous promenade is Trevignano. Bracciano has the castle which is interesting enough although they only do guided tours and you are only given a peek at the view from the parapets which of course can be spectacular on a good day.
The lake fish is called coregone and is very delicate and light, grilled very simply, and inexpensive, so I recommend that.
Bracciano has a rather slow train service into Rome (about 1.5 hrs to get to Central Rome); the big disadvantage with it if you're based here is that the last train back leaves Rome far too early (around 930pm)However you can also do loads of sightseeing to great Etruscan places like Cerveteri, or other equally pretty lakes like Vico to the north. In general a really beautiful part of Lazio.
