Torre Mañana is a long tower located in a high point in the old town of Cuenca, a city in Castilla-la-Mancha Region. It was built in the 16th Century and it was remodelled in the 20th Century. Nowadays you can go to the base of the tower and see it. We came here at night and it was lighted. It is a nice building in the old town.

Cuenca is a beautiful medieval town, just an hour away from Madrid by fast train. If you go you should arrange for a guided tour, which are inexpensive, and leave from the old City Hall. Without this help we would have wandered aimlessly. One cautionary note; we went in early March, and it was very cold, so dress warmly for the mountains. Lunch at the Parador, a former monastery, is also highly recommended; it's a beautiful room, the former chapel, with wonderful service and food.

This tall clock tower sits in the old Muslim section of the city and dominates the skyline in that area. It's worth stopping to see.

A medieval clock tower look into the Jewish quarter of the city. It's a very interesting walk and you see very old buildings and get a real feel of the town from this area.

You will see the clock tower here in the open air plaza. The lower part of the city can also be seen from the viewing balcony.
There are also many remains of ruins from the different historical buildings here in the past.

Not much to say about this. The history that has been entombed below, is sufficiently obscured by steel I-beams, dirty windows and ducting, that it's not worth much more than a glance on the way to the car park.
Poor, unsympathetic architecture makes the space look incomplete and the concerns of earlier reviewers realised.

The tower is interesting to see but is in the middle of a historic area which is currently being developed. It is part of an ancient Jewish and Muslim site with various stone remains being preserved. I imagine it will be quite something when it's complete

It is uncertain when Mangana tower was originally built, because it appears in the evidented history just recently, in 1565 as a detail on the painting. But it is certain that fortress system, upon which tower is raised, is of Arabic origin and served as southern entrance area to Arabic fortress-town of Kunka. Perhaps it was abandoned when Castillan rulers expanded Cuenca further south, with Lower town which was defended by new set of walls and gates and from then losing its function. Fortified site was destroyed in wars, earthquakes and even thunderbolts throughout history and apperance of Mangana tower of today (as a bell tower) owns to its renovations from 20th century, in years 1926 and 1968.
In general, if you are not tight in time it is nice to visit this location, but if you`re busy in exploring restaurats, churches, museums or with hiking around Cuenca do not bother to visit (fortified site could be also conserved a little better). Although, Mangana tower would be great attraction if climbing on top to enjoy the views, was allowed.

An interesting remainder of old Cuenca, surrounded by modern developments such as science museum and verandas.

Hola. Tengo un par de preguntas sobre la Torre de Mangana. ¿Puede visitarse la torre, o solo la plaza en la que está situada? ¿Es posible acceder en silla de ruedas?
Gracias,
Antonio.
