Enjoyed a Sunday afternoon matinee at Sibelius birthplace today. A great small museum with lots of interesting information (tour) about the composer and his life's first 20 years in Hämeenlinna. Absolutely worth to visit if you are in town. Sundays offer an extra bonus to your visit when young talented players and singers are performing Sibelius music.

If you are from Finland, visit this Place and if you are from abroad and interested of Finnish music and Sibelius, visit this home. The guide is excellent and you will get a good view from the Finnish lifestyle in 19th century. The wooden house with the furniture is an excellent example. It is also very easy to find. There... Although this is a small museum - only five rooms - it was very interesting and informative about the life of Sibelius. Information is available in different languages and it is worth reading the material about each room as you enter. Combined with the Sibelius Museum in Turku, you will end up very informed about this interesting composer.

A small historical house in the middle of Hameenlinna city. It has an extraordinary athmosphere even though the rooms do not have a lot of old interiors or furniture. But with the few items and music they normally let you listen to while visiting you can feel the unique sound of Sibelius´ music.

This is a small house where Sibelius spent only a few months after he was born here, but they have tried to re-construct the interior and provide a lot of information about his life. There was a pianist playing his music, which was a lovely touch.

Very small place but full of interesting belonging to this immense compositor. It is a bit strange that there is so little publicity for this place. There are some concerts in the house itself. Go and listen Finlandia after it.

This place is very complexed from international point of view. On the other hand, you are talking about one of the most important composer of the whole world, who made glorious music. And then you are talking about him as a Finn, a guy from the country ofmodern design - like Aalto, Marimekko, Wirkkala -, Muumis and Nokia. And the... More
