A life long ambition to visit was realised. A vast expanse of shore that is divided into four names/locales encompassing variants of surf. Spectacular to say the least and busy with surfers and observers, even at dusk! Easy to access and to bunk yourself down to watch the magnificent surfers. People visit from all over Australia and in better times, from overseas. We were spoilt with the entertainment and views.

Cactus Beach is situated 23 kms from the small town of Penong.
It is an iconic surf beach with great waves for board riders.
Camping is available here as well.

My mate first came here back in '79 and was impressed that with small changes it still resembled his early memories.A boardwalk over the dunes to the beach now and a desert style caravan/camp spaces with minimal conveniences at a cost ($25 a head a night) !! The beach and surf break are still awesome but the 'noahs' are a worry nowadays ! The dirt road in over the salt lake & thru the sand dunes makes for a memorable visit but easily done in a 2wd vehicle.

To stay in camping area one needs to be quite keen on the area. I would prefer to stay at the Penong caravan park with the amenities than be self contained and paying almost the same.
