Drove past it 3 times looking for something smaller. Much bigger than I expected. Just outside Dog Rock shopping centre.

Located near the centre of Albany is Dog Rock, a granite outcrop which is shaped like the head of a dog. Many years ago (in the late 30's I think...) a "collar" was painted around the base of the outcrop to assist with traffic as it's right on the side of the road. It's worth a visit if you're in... If you are in Albany you must see this massive rock that looks like a dog. Weird but good and it makes a great photo for your album

Dog Rock is an interesting spot to visit, just a quick stop to see the shape that looks like a dog. On the shopping centre wall next to it there is an ANZAC painted mural with some information about ANZAC biscuits and war uniforms.

Albany is a town where you will find huge outcrops everywhere. People will build houses around them & on top of them. It is not unusual to see them in gardens around town. But this one is right on the edge of the road, on the verge of a huge shopping centre on Middleton Road. You can't miss it. It... More

It is an interesting large granite rock and what makes it interesting is that it is alongside the road close to town and has created enough interest to have a shopping center neamed after it. You will find a number of granite boulders scattered around the area of albany.

I saw when I was in Albany a photograph of this rock in its natural form. Apparently, it's a tribal artifact that some clown has decided to paint a black & white collar on it. Funny No not really because if a member of the public did that a hefty fine or a jail sentence would have been imposed. Dog... More

I can't believe the earth could produce such a sublime work of art.. and the painstakingly painted collar takes it to the next level. Get ready to have a religious experience if you go on a pilgrimage to Dog Rock.

This place is just a funny rock to see in the town but you must look closely to see the dog. Not worth stopping for but you can see it easily from the car.

A rock shaped like the head of a dog with a painted collar to make it look effective! On the main road so you will need to park in the local shopping centre car park for the best photo.
