The surging power of the Southern Ocean is evident at The Gap, a spectacular channel in the 40 metre high coastal granites of Torndirrup National Park. Lookouts at both the Gap and natural Bridge provide outstanding views of the Southern Ocean and the coast from Bald Head to West Cape Howe. Visitors to the Gap can venture onto a universally accessible new viewing platform 40 metres directly above the surging seas in all but the worst weather conditions. From the gentle and mesmerising heaving of calm seas to the buffeting rush of wind and spray of winter storms the experience changes from day to day. A raised pathway leads from the car-park and picnic area across the top of the exposed granite ramparts to reach the viewing platform at the Gap. The pathway gives safe access to the best views while protecting vulnerable plants and lichens on the rock surface from trampling.

A quick trip well worth the short drive past Frenchman Bay. Ladies watch it if wearing a dress, the powerful waves almost blew my dress over my head!

I note the access to this site was only opened in May 2016 and I have to say, it is just brilliant and gives the visitor the best views without feeling like you want to leave the viewing areas to get good photos. It's wonderful to see wheelchair access to such a rugged and beautiful place. The signage on the... More

Thanks so much for your review. The Gap and Natural Bridge are now fully wheel-chair accessible, whereas in the past this was not possible. Visitors are encouraged to take time to understand the cultural and geological history of the site. Thanks for encouraging others to do the same. Lots of people have enquired about the plants near the walkways. Any... More

The new viewing platform over the gap is worth going to look at without even taking in the amazing view it provides. What a feat of engineering. Step out on the platform if you dare on a windy day. An amazing experience

Worth the trip to Albany even if it were just for this. "The Gap is an impressive rugged granite channel carved by the waves of the Great Southern Ocean crashing against the granite coastline forming a spectacular sheer drop of almost twenty five metres. " It now has a man made steel structure which allows a brave visitor to move... More

From here you can see the waves crashing against "The Gap", it's a good but high up lookout point. There's also a natural bridge that allows you to see surrounding islands and take photos of the bay nearby, excellent site

We went when it was pouring with rain so it was quite hard to see or take pics but I imagine on a nice day it would be lovely. Not sure its worth the $12 to park the car for 5 minutes and to be honest there wasn't a lot of people paying. Nice place to visit but try go... More

ALmost missed ths place if not due to the recommendation from Quality Inn Banksia, Rosemarie we would have missed this jewel of the south. it was a short 20mins drive from town and the view toward the ocean was spectacular. the newly built pavement and bridge provides marvelous 180 degree view of the ocean. The bridge enables adrenaline-rushed view of... More
