This village is about an hour's drive from Kodaikanal. In fact we visited this village on our way back from Berijam Lake. It is small tiny village, a historic 2000 plus year old kuzhandhai vellapar temple associated with Palani Murugan temple. A must visit to this temple, one can see Pazhani temple gopuram on a clear day on way to Poombarai.
There is plenty of locally grown garlic being sold in this town.

Poombarai is a beautiful village located close to Kodaikanal. And is a small village located at the mid of Kodaikanal hills. The weather the village is really beautiful. Road way is a must have experience to this village. There is also a famous temple. If you like camping in the hills. This is the best place. Make sure you get your own tents for the camp. The temperature cold. Overalls its a great experience.

Our guide at Sterling suggested this drive. We wanted to visit some non crowded view points and we were advised to take this drive. The problem with Kodai is all the tourist sites are located on one stretch which starts with upper lake view,Shola pine forest walk, Guna caves, rock pillar and then suicide point. The entry point to Berijam lake also is along the same track. Therefore this stretch gets heavily crowded agter 10am...the haphazard parking and the non existent police make this a vert yedious drive. It took us about 4 hours to cover this track and we decided not to visit most of the places because it was overcrowded.Poombarai village is a deviation just before moovankadu. Its a nice pleasant drive through pine forests. AT one place there is a point where u can walk to a small waterfall. Once you reach Poombarai village the view is breathtaking.

Poombarai village is essentially a tightly packed and burgeoning spread of largely red-tiled, brick houses nestled in a mild valley amidst the upper regions of the Palani Hills. This eclectic cluster makes for an interesting viewing as well as a break from the miles of pine and eucalyptus forests. Roads are not too broad so park and get out of your vehicle cautiously. The viewing point has a steep drop that makes it unsafe not just for children but also for careless adults.

The view of Poombarai village from the top is no less than a Swiss village view. Poombarai is a village located in the Palani hills of Tamil Nadu. It is on the way to Mannavanur lake. One also gets to see a temple in that village, that is supposed to be 3000 years old (as told to us by our driver)
If its foggy one may not get to see the view at all. Overall a nice view to click snaps. Do stop at this place for some time.

Poomparai Murugan temple is not as popular as Palni, yet this statue (of Murugan) was also established by Sithar Bogar himself. It was a very soulful experience. The roads were bumby and it was a tough drive though. (We chose to drive on our own)
We tried to visit Mannavanur farms after that, but it was closed for lunch by the time we went there. Our kids were vey disappointed. Though we requested we wait for sometime to see the farm animals, they wouldn't listen, very unfriendly.

We went to the village. The drive upto the village is really good. However, I felt there is nothing much to see there except the temple. A tamil movie is made on this village.

It’s a treat to our eyes to watch the splendid view of this village from top view. We found this more beautiful than the so called “green valley view”. It has a big Murugan Temple at the center of the village. It’s quite clean & big. Can say it’s a good place for the local kiddo’s to play. Cos the one & only big terrain in that village is that temple campus, apart from that all the streets, roads & houses are inclined only.
While on the view from top, if u wait for 5 mins u could see the constant flow of clouds over the village. When we reached the top view of poombarai point, it was completely covered by mist. We waited there for some 10 mins, the mist got moved and we were blessed with a fantastic view.
You can see carrot, cabbage, garlic cultivations over there. Also I must say about the mode of travel by those villagers. Guess wat??? They hardly use the bus facilities; most of the tribal people in the valley walk for kilometer’s daily to collect the fire sources for their daily needs.
Sad part is , it doesn’t have any restaurant. Leave about restaurant, it not even has any tea shop. It has a small shop opposite to temple, where u can get some biscuits & breads.
Tips : If ur going to poombarai & mannavanur lake, first go to pommbarai and have lunch @ saleema restaurant and then proceed to mannavanur. To locate this restaurant, u have to again travel towards the mahalakshmi temple , u can find it on the right side when we move towards mahalakshmi temple from poombarai.
