The toll for this road as well as for every other roads in the DR is extremely expensive. If you accept this then we can focus on the real experience what a drive on this hilly road can give you. Awesome. Everywhere in the Dominincan Republic you can feel the beauty of nature but on the top of the hills... More

Road by itself good and safe. But there are other huge problem if you drive in Samana town and its dark. After mountains about 30 miles very narrow road goes thru the small cities. There are no sidewalks, everyone walk road and hundreds of bikers without any lights drive different directions. If it weekend most of them drunk. Take for... More

The toll is high (about US$20) but there are some areas (Los Haitises) with beautiful scenic views. If you are going to Las Terrenas or Portillo, it saves at least a couple of hours driving.

We rent a car during our recent visit to Samana and drove from Santo Domingo to Las Terrenas. The road is very good and safe since allowed speed is 80 km by hour. As all over Dominica Republic you have to pay attention to motorcycles that are everywhere with no rules. However in this road there are not many. There... More

Breathtaking views on the way to and from the resort, almost a rainforest type view with the foliage. Tour bus stopped several times to allow us to breathe in the view but it was difficult to get pictures thru the tinted windows.

Going to Las Terrenas? Pay the tolls on route 7 in pesos, not dollars or Euros, Leaving Santo domingo airport once you connect (overpass) to the main highway, get OFF! (15 klm to the next exit) the side road will allow you to get on Route 7 north. (Take the GPS option with the rental car) There are clean bathrooms... More

Be careful for falling rocks and crazy drivers. Dominican drivers are aggressive and have no respect for any laws. It's a pretty drive, but scary. Watch out for falling rocks. If not totally confident in driving in 3rd world countries, it might not be for you to try

Beautiful view while driving to a stunning town to Samana. It has three toll, there are not cheap, but it worthy use it for the nice landscape. An advice: Do not drive so fast, respect the speed limit.

This road has a beautiful view and is a lot safer than the way through the mountains. You can save around 25 minutes + gas just by taking this road. Tge beautiful sightseings and photo stops makes it worth the toll fee.

If you have visited the DR you will know traffic laws are not followed by most. However, if you have a rental car like I did you get pull over for going over 10 mph over the speed limit. No joke. I think the police are corrupted and it should not be.
