Thank you! One of the most common comments we receive is how deceptive the size of the museum is. J More

We left this visit until last, which was a mistake because we could have spent more time here. A small museum, packed with interesting exhibits on early life in the area.

This museum is larger than it looks so we were lucky to have time to spare to have a good look. Great exhibits on the history of the area, it's social history and the personalities that shaped it.

First it is definitely worth the entry fee. Good displays and reconstructions tell the history of this town. An hour spent here and you will know the place far better than looking round the shops. Looks deceptive from the outside. Much bigger and more to see than you imagine.

I liked it that guests were given a generous taste of what's in store for them at the entrance so they can decide if they would like to enter or not. It offers the right amount of information and artefacts from the Gold Rush era. Make sure to check out the lavatory on the ground floor of the exhibit.

This is a most well designed and comprehensive multi-level museum for a small town. Its replicas included a schoolroom, smithy, goldfields pub, details of gold workings. Fascinating displays of equipment and daily utensils reveal the hardships and pleasures of past years . Excellent section on the Maori life pre European arrival. So much to see and ponder over. Would have... More

Thank you for your wonderful review! There are usually chairs available on the upstairs level for watching the presentation - I'm not sure where they wandered off to on the day you were visiting! We will be sure to check on them more often as visitors do sometimes move them around during the day. J More

We came to Arrowtown almost by mistake and wondered into the museum, I thought it was a little pricy because it seemed so small but after entering I realized how awesome it was! Its very educational and interactive, I would recommend parents to bring their kids as they have several "stage" like areas and I can tell you that at... More

A very good collection of local goldmingand general history. Probably a fitting use for the old bank building

Thank you for your review. The museum is very fortunate that the 1875 BNZ building was donated to us in 1955. The stables downstairs (where the blacksmith is) were also a part of the original bank and remain in situ. We are very proud of the fact that that museum houses several original structures that have been carefully built around... More

This is a most comprehensive view into the past life of Arrowtown. It leaves no aspect out, and is most informative. The most impressive part is what is down the stairs. I loved the schoolroom but was disappointed the slate pencils didn't work or else I would have left a message on a slate "been there, done that".
