We arrived at Nosy Be as part of two islands excursion. We visited Nosy Komba and Nosy Tanikely.

First stop Nosy Tanikely in Malagasian the name means "Little Island". This is an underwater and land reserve.

After another early tender (7.30am!) we reach this small island by speed boat!
Here we had plenty of snorkelling time. There were a lot of well preserved reefs with plenty of fish species. After 2 hours in the water we took the boat to Nosy Komba.
This is the island where we found most of the animals living in Madagascar. There are lemurs, chamelons, snakes, turtles. Lemurs jump on your back and allow to take photo (as you can see). You must have a banana of course…. 🍌
Hubby also had photo with a snake🐍 😱.
On Nosy Komba we had a lovely lunch over looking the ocean.
A very interesting village located between rocks.

A wonderful spot for snorkelling and diving! Get there early to avoid the crowds. You can snorkel and dive right off the beach. We saw so many fish and turtles and it was a fantastic spot to do a Discover Scuba dive. If it gets crowded, head towards the east over some rocks and you’ll find your own private beach with great snorkelling too. Highly recommend this for a day on the beach. Note- watch out for the plankton bites especially if you are allergic!

We visited Nosy Tanikely as part of three island tour, organized for us by the amazing Madagascar Tour Severino. The tour was great and the lunch on the beach and snorkeling are highly recommended.

We arrived early at high tide, but went several times snorkeling while tide was going fully down. This gave close look at turtles, parrot fish, color changing octopus, and floating in an aquarium full of sparkling fish.
Make sure white people have long leg covering against the sun.
The quality of the half day trip was enhanced by our tour operator who made a sumptuous lunch on the beach, in the shade, just for the two of us.
Also we walked up to the lighthouse, looking at the lemurs half way.
The site becomes crowded at lunch but closes at about 15:00 hrs so everybody is home before dark.

We visited Tanikely as part of three islands excursion (special thanks to Black&Jackson). We visited Nosy Komba, Nosy Vorona and Nosy Tanikely. Nosy Komba is the island where you can find all animals living in Madagascar. There are lemurs, chamelons, snakes, turtles. Lemurs jump on your back and allow to take photo ! You must have a banana of course. you can have also a photo with a snake on your arms. On Nosy Komba you'll find a lot of stalls selling souvenirs and interesting village located between rocks. Next step of our excursion was Nosy Vorona. It's very charming island where you would feel bored after two hours of time spent there. There is a beautiful beach, some rocks and clear water. Nothing more, even the piece of shade. Luckily after 30 minutes we mooved to Nosy Tanikely. In Malagasian the name means "Little Island". There is an underwater and land reserve. You can snorkel there and admire richness of undrewater life. There are a lot of well preserved reefs and a lot of fish. After snorkeling you can go to a lighthouse (5 minutes) and take some panoramic photos of the landscape. You can have also a delicious lunch on the beach there (Black&Jackson rules ;-) ).

This is a very small island, and whilst it s a protected park where fishing is prohibited, I think the number of tourists that visit in high season exceeds the normal carrying capacity which rather spoils the pleasure. More and more it caters for mass groups. I decided to sip the lunch and thus have at least for a while a beach which was not overcrowded.

Great time there. We had our private breakfast, did snorkelling and did our first « baptême » of diving. We saw dolphins, turtles, sharks and a massive diversity of fishes and shellfishes. Highly recommended.

I suppose I’ve been spoilt by Australia’s Great Barrier Reef where the coral is so colourful. Here it is very beige albeit with a myriad of shapes. Only snorkeling so maybe the coral is better further out.

Straight out where most of the crowd is was a bit light on for fish. However, if you go to the right towards the rocky outcrop the coral is teaming with fish of every hue.

Lighthouse was ho hum and not worth the walk.

Good place to while away a few hours.

Nosy Tanikely is a little gem, especially if you walk up to the lighthouse (and away from the tourists on the beach), and has been my favorite scuba diving surface interval to date. Went diving with Scuba Nosy Be (which I highly recommend), and hanging out on the island was our surface interval!

Walking to and from the lighthouse we saw hermit crabs galore, lizards, geckos, and lemurs! The view from the lighthouse (which you can go inside and to the top of) is beautiful.
