I really enjoyed the insect exhibit that was on when I visited. The museum is big for the town it belongs to, but it's not the most exciting I've ever been to. It would be a really nice place to take kids for an hour.

This is not a museum that excites but it is interesting with detailed descriptions of the region and Nelson city's past. It is well worth an hour and it also has visiting exhibitions that add interest.

Happened on this by chance, but would recommend seeking it out if traveling in Nelson. Awesome exhibits. Small entrance fee, but really reasonable.

We were fortunate to visit the museum whilst there is an exhibition of Leonardo da Vinci's art and engineering upstairs; this added to the experience of spending a couple of happy hours in the museum itself. Whilst it is relatively small it covers an enormous...More

The museum focuses too much on just one incident, albeit an important part of the local history. The relationship between the cost of entrance and the content was not good. Nevermind, it supports the local community.

This is a nice small museum about the early settlers in the Nelson area. I really enjoyed the displays and information on the people that came to this part of the country and the information on the many hardships they experienced to make the area...More
