The historic Rochdale Cider Factory in Stoke is the home of McCashin's Brewery, where the "Craft Beer Revolution" was started in 1981 by Terry McCashin. Rochdale Cider is still brewed on site, along with Stoke Beer, Palaeo Water, Stoke Ginger Beer and Lemon Lime & Bitters. The Brewery is a ‘must visit’ while in Nelson, offering daily brewery tours, free tastings, a cafe, bottlestore and bar. You can also make a day of it by checking out the Great Taste Trail as well, a popular walking and biking trail which runs behind the Brewery. There are other craft breweries close by you can visit too.And if you’re staying a bit longer, there’s happy hour 4pm-6pm weekdays, free quiz night every Thursday, Texas Hold’em Poker on Friday nights, McCashin’s Market every Saturday from 12-4pm, live music Saturday 1-5pm and Sundays 2-6pm, family friendly atmosphere, garden bar, $10 woodfired pizzas Thurs-Sun and Sublime coffee seven days a week from 7am. And did we mention great beer?McCashin's is open from 7am seven days a week and serves locally made Sublime Coffee. The Cafe was voted Best Cafe in Nelson's 2012 Top Shop Awards. Locals say the coffee is amongst the best in Nelson. Foodwise, don't expect a full cooked meal ... but the cabinet food offerings such as the home-made sausage rolls and beef and Stoke Beer pies, wraps, bagels, cakes, muffins, salads etc. are pretty good.

Dropped in on a weekday arvo following an outing in the Nelson region. Had tried a couple their beers in bottles over the years so knew roughly what to expect. The brewery facade certainly doesn’t jump out at you but didn’t let that impact expectations....More

We pre-booked a tour of New Zealand’s first craft brewery. Although our tour was a little rushed it was more than made up for by the knowledge and anecdotes of our guide Nikki. For your $25 you also get a generous tasting of a variety...More

The venue is rustic, beers and cider excellent. Food a bit hit and miss. Steak was excellent, cooked medium with loads of char grill flavour and nice peppery jus. Twice cooked pork belly was very disappointing. Lack of flavour may have been due to lack...More

We stopped by to try some of the beers, and they had a nice selection to try. Because they're on a bigger road and not near anything, we had to drive there and therefore only one of us could really enjoy the beer. That's not...More

Soak up the atmosphere in the brewery while enjoy a taste meal. I had a pint of beer which is reasonably priced at $8 and tasted great. Craft beer. The salt and pepper calamari is yummy and you get a good amount as well. This...More

We went for dinner recently after tramping the Old Ghost Road. It was just what we all needed. Steak, salad, dairy free pasta. Stoke beers are delicious and we polished off a jug very easily. Had the cheesecake for dessert which was nice although the...More

Called into this vibrant and busy cafe for takeaway coffees on our visit to Nelson. There was a wide mix of young and old enjoying their morning outings. The staff were friendly and helpful and the service was good considering the nearly full cafe. The...More
