About
The way is the story – the story is the way In the Slovenian Alpine Museum the past and the future go hand in hand. A rich collection of items with diverse historical stories, rich photographic and archive material, and a comprehensive professional booklet give the visitor the chance to grasp the popularity and importance of the mountaineering activity in the Slovenian territory. The permanent exhibition is based on the concept of a museum story, which we experience through our own climb up the mountain.

Interesting museum with a great interactive game for kids (and adults) to learn about the mountains. Fascinating stories about the early mountaineers and how they managed the harsh conditions. The mock bivouac experience was a stretch of the imagination but interesting nonetheless. You really understand the pride felt by the Slovenian people about how the mountains are in their blood. Good shop with local products and plenty of books, guides and maps to purchase of the area. Cost was €8 for an adult.

We combined the visit of the museum with their escape room as well as via ferata climb just outside of the museum. The staff is very friendly and provided us with necessary information. The via ferata equipment that we rented there was of good quality and they were happy to give us basic guidance. The museum is also very child friendly with many interesting and interactive activities to explore. Worth visiting.

Interactive museum that is interesting even for people whose idea of going into the mountains is taking the cable car to the restaurant at the top (us). Explains many aspects of Slovenian mountaineering. The best part is the VR zip line experience!

The museum only cost €13 for a family of four so it wasn’t too disappointing when many of the experiments on the lower ground floor were broken or had bits missing. It was a disappointing start but things did get better. The interactive quiz on the top floor did keep the kids engaged and we found out things we wouldn’t have done if we’d just been left to look at the exhibits. They enjoyed completing the tasks to get their postcard with stamps. Definitely worth popping in if you’re passing but wouldn’t recommend going way out of your way.

Dear Sir or Madam, thank you for your honest opinion. We are sorry for the inconvenience you had at our temporary display "On the Top of the Mountains by the Sky". This display was visited by numerous groups from Slovenia and from neighbour countries. Unfortunatelly some of experiments didn't work at time of your visit. We will replace this part of display in next days. The next theme will be "Female Courage - an exhibition about Slovenian women climbers. We strongly believe, it will be very interesting. We are happy that you enjoyed at our permanent interactive exhibition. Beside that, we offer also VR glasses with views from tops of 30 Slovenian peaks and we offer also "VR winter ascend to Mount Triglav". There is also an adventure room - some kind of escape room, where visitors try not to be caught by a storm (additional payment). Our visitors can visit 80-years old bivouvac (an emergency hut), and listen some stories that happened around bivouvacs. There are also programmes for families and children, and several lectures about mountaineering and alpinism, usually at friday evenings. At museum's front desk we hire sports equipment, like bicycles or via ferrata sets. Our neighbourhood offers a lot of oportunities for cycling and climbing. We trully hope that you come back and give us another opportunity to reach your expectations. Best regards, Matjaz Podlipnik

We stopped here on a bike tour. You learn about the contributions Slovenians have made to mountaineering, which are considerable, considering the size of Slovenia. You see gear from the earliest days to the present. A simulator gives you an idea of what it is like to be on the mountain during a storm. A mountain is nearby and you can see people climbing on it.

The museum showed an interesting approach in presenting information in game format. There are different quests available as well as online audio guides. The exposition itself far from being excelent but overall experience is alright.

This museum is dedicated to climbing in Slovenia and the Julian Alps in particular. If you are in the area, maybe after climbing Triglav, a visit will be very rewarding.
