About one hour drive from Lima through bleak desert scenery one reaches a couple of weekend and vacation homes developments. The beaches are quite extensive and not crowded. There is minimal infrastructure. Of course, the vast pacific coast is impressive but rather desolate. There are tremendous breakers and swimming past them is hazardous. You will find no luscious tropical setting and once the mist burns off around midday be prepared with lots of sunblock and hat.

This is a big beach along the sea, an OK place to play in the sea. There are lots of second homes here, places for people from Lima to get away from the city.

This beach area is very popular as a resort area for folks who live in Lima. So you will find houses and apartments used as second homes. Plus a huge beach. Along the pacific highway.

This outdoor shopping and restaurant "oasis" in the desert south of Lima was built to cater to the vacationers from Lima during the summer months. Tried a couple of restaurants but none of them lived up to the excellent reputation of the Peruvian cuisine.

Very upscale beach town for the well-heeled of Lima with a huge open beach, lots of room for sun and sand.

Beautiful and relaxing beach. The sunset was gorgeous. A nice place to go with family and friends to relax. Lots of nice restaurants and night life.

This beach shows you a very different "Peru" as it shows you only the wealthy and beautiful people. The beach is a (yes, sure, beautiful) gated community and even parents let personnel push their babies' strollers (hey, it is 2016, not 1900!?!). The whole "town" has many shops and restaurants. The whole is not a reflection of Peru...but as a country with extremes...also one of the many realities you can experience.

If you want to really get a feel for extremes, go first to Pucusana (rather working population beach), then to Cerro Azul (something more mixed, with middle class people) and then to Asia...just to see how "Peru" can change only within a couple of miles...

It's great if you want to stay for the summer with your family. You have to rent a house in a condominium. Only a couple of hotels. The condominiums in Asia are expensive but safe and complete. They have inside pools, parks, some have restaurants, and nearby have the Boulevard Asia department store, where you can find restaurants, stores, discos. The beaches are mostly private. Asia beach is two hours form Lima. People own beach house so in Asia. It's a popular local beach, it's not a cultural or tourist attraction , recommend to rent a house if you wanna stay.
