A small walk from the parking area. Has stunning views of the sea and once can watch the seals up close in their natural surroundings. There is a small colony where they were nursing their kids. Please be careful during High Tides. One may get stranded on the other side. Lol. Water may rise and while coming back, one may... More

We were on our way to Kaikoura for our whale watching tour when we stopped to see the colony not too long before the earthquake. Apparently, the earthquake has significantly disrupted the habitat - so I'm not sure what it looks like now. You'll have to check other, more recent reviews to get an idea of what it's like now... Here you can watch and snap photos of Fur Seals and Penguins in their natural habitat. The area is closed of further out the point to make sure people don't get too close though. Be mindful of slippery rocks.

This place is a great chance to see these impressive and beautiful wild creatures in their natural environment. I would thoroughly recommend it. BUT: 1 Wear good footwear as it's a pretty rugged and craggy piece of coast. This is not a 'wheelchair friendly' attraction. 2 Respect the animals. We saw a number of people who clearly thought the animals... More

We watched the young fur seals playing on the rocks and in the sea, they were delightful. Lots more were resting on the rocks nearer the town.

Oahu Point is 20km north of Kaikoura, and you cannot miss it if you are driving south from Picton. You'll start seeing seals swimming near the coast as you get close to Oahu, where some rocks offer a perfect shelter for fur seals and their puppies. Park your car close to the highway (there is no parking area), and watch... More

Even though the coastline had changed and grew after the earthquake, it still was worth the short drive to see the seals. You have to walk out a bit further but hey who cares 10/10

Our girls (miss 15 & 13yrs) wanted to see the wildlife. Seals check, Penguin check. Everyone happy. Even on such a warm day it was lovely.

Driving up State HWY 1 driving north from Kaikoura, this was an unplanned but totally interesting stop that we made on our way up the coast. Being a California native, I've seen sea lions on the rocks, but this is really spectacular. There were dozens and dozens of sea lions jumping on and off of the rocks into the surging... More
