Whangarei Quarry Gardens is a subtropical oasis created by volunteers in the remnants of a former quarry in Northland, New Zealand.

The Gardens are open to the public and feature subtropical gardens, native forest walks, waterfalls, streams, quarry ruins, tunnels, a scented Camellia collection, a plethora of NZ native and exotic plant species and so much more...

The Gardens are a work in progress and have been created through the blood, sweat, tears and laughter of volunteers, supporting companies and other interest groups.

Entry is by GOLD-COIN DONATION, with all proceeds used to purchase plants and equipment. Thanks!

This is a lovely garden tended by volunteers with lots of paths taking you into the old Quarry. Its a bit of a climb to go right up to the waterfall but worth it to see the lovely pond. It has some really interesting plants & good to visit anytime of the year. Its just off the main road but... More

This place is a treat - amazing value (gold coin donation when they could easily justify charging $10-20pp) and really interesting. Quite popular on weekends but the gardens are large enough that other visitors rarely cross your path. Highly recommended and offers something for most people.

We have often walked here with family and children. The walks are pretty sedate and was but make a great way to spend a few hours wandering around landscaped disused quarry. There are a variety of tracks that gives you plenty of options for different routes, views and difficulty. Recommended for a few hours of free entertainment and exercise.

This was great fun to go to with the kids. Lots of different paths to take and the tunnels are so much fun. Beautiful gardens all year round. Great for ideas for your home garden also.

These gardens are very well maintained with a huge variety of interesting plants and flowers to see. The paths are sometimes quite confusing and there's not a lot of shade - it would be best to visit on a cooler day. Cafe was very nice. Lots of baby birds!

It's a nice local setting, not a world class attraction. The volunteers who man the desk love to have a chat. The coffee shop has very good sweets and coffee.

We popped in for brunch. Set in garden vista with walking options. Food was varied and catered all requirements. Well presented and great service

Located a short distance from Whangarei City, just off the main road. Excellent value for just a gold coin donation at the entry point. The café/reception was closed for a private function (wedding) so we could not get a map and if I have a criticism it is that there was no map signage and little information about the plants....
