Overview
More
Whangarei Quarry Gardens is a subtropical oasis created by volunteers in the remnants of a former quarry in Northland, New Zealand. The Gardens are open to the public and feature subtropical gardens, native forest walks, waterfalls, streams, quarry ruins, tunnels, a scented Camellia collection, a plethora of NZ native and exotic plant species and so much more... The Gardens are a work in progress and have been created through the blood, sweat, tears and laughter of volunteers, supporting companies and other interest groups. Entry is by GOLD-COIN DONATION, with all proceeds used to purchase plants and equipment. Thanks!

Its a nice walk and a great use of the old quarry. Would love if it was more educational and had more natives as well as exotics.

Beautiful gardens. Peaceful, restful, enjoyable. Great place for children to use up energy although they need supervision as there are open bodies of water and steep drops. The paths are well maintained and easily accessible. Great value for a gold coin donation. Be kind and...More

There's an excellent modern cafe at the entrance but you really must press on, make a donation and walk around this disused quarry which is slowly being converted into an outstanding garden by an industrious group of volunteers. The sub-tropical sections of the garden are...More

I loved these gardens. We turned up by chance, and luckily had time for a coffee at the cafe (closes at 3pm), before a walk around the gardens (closes at 5pm). They are beautiful, lush and well cared for, and all maintained by volunteers. Make...More

The gardens are great to stroll around and the Mad Woman’s Track is a fabulous challenge for the more adventurous. Do take some water though! A thoroughly enjoyable day indeed.

Went with my son and his family to the Quarry Gardens. There were very few people there, lots of walking paths. Amazing scenery - where the water falls are cascading down almost looks like a scene out of Jurassic Park. Plants mostly labelled. Lots of...More
