I enjoyed great available and knowledgeable staff. I particularly admired the curator’s taste in the display. They organised the various works of art (various medium too) in a smart way, that is they found a theme, a thread, which I found subtle and able to...More

When we were there, there were some nice exhibits but the experience cannot help being a disappointment to anyone who knows the Sarjeant Gallery's normal home - which is an architectural gem with a wonderful collection.

Sergeant is a museum-gallery right in the middle of town, close to i-site and everything. Mainly modern art, lots of local art.

Thoughtfully put together with a story line linking the exhibits. Friendly staff. Shame the original building was undergoing earthquake strengthening so the exhibit was in temporary premises.

The original Sarjeant Gallery is going to be upgraded (big job!) but this "pop-up shop" is still worth a visit. Free entry, interesting little gallery shop, very friendly receptionist the day we went.
