This park is indeed a botanic garden with hothouses and plantings both native and exotic but it also has barbeques and wide open spaces for picnics and games. A huge asset for Wanganui.

This is a lovely place for a stroll or a picnic. If you have your own car, pack a picnic and enjoy the serenity and magnificent trees in this multi-level, multi-themed collection of gardens. Great!

A fifteen minute drive out of Wanganui gets you to these unexpected gardens in what is otherwise farmland. Created by the Bason family as a passion while they were farming for a living, these gardens have tropical plants and water features inside, as well as extensive outdoor plantings. I found Bason Botanic Gardens almost by accident when I first moved to Whanganui about 18 months ago. I kept it to myself and then suggested to my wife that we go for a BBQ on my birthday the following month, but didn't reveal the location. She was speechless with delight!! And I have had the same reaction from all... More

Very large gardens with interesting twists and turns, no shortage of easily accessible WC s strategically placed thru out. Orchid display was a bit disappointing.

After having visited Wanganui many times, this was our first visit to the gardens. It is a really beautiful place with various walkways. There are toilets. We can only imagine how much more beautiful the gardens would be in Spring Summer when more flowers are out. The gardens are about 9 kms out of town on Rapanui Road. You can... More
