Undoubtedly the most authentic way to experience Whanganui River’s scenery and history. Regular cruises aboard the iconic Waimarie Paddle Steamer - NZ’s only coal-fired paddle steamer operating from the golden riverboat era - are available during warmer months (October - April) and private charter cruises can be made by arrangement anytime. View cruise entertainment, timetable, prices and purchase tickets online or at the Waimarie Centre, where you can also uncover river memorabilia at the Waimarie Museum and marvel at a 134-year old architecturally designed building.

Hi Glad you enjoyed the trip on the Waimarie. Although we are registered for 150 passengers our policy is to keep it to about 100 at the most to ensure it is comfortable to move around.

The boat itself is pretty impressive considering its age. The trip is a slow slog that doesn't go very far and then just turns around. And expensive to boot.

I guess a 114 year old boat seems pretty slow today, but I hope you enjoyed the cruise.
