The mine is run by very enthusiastic volunteers who take you through the mine tunnels and tell you how the working conditions of the miners and how they lived. They are mud tunnnels so I recommend suitable footwear and they provide you with hard hats as some of the trunnels are low in height. They is also a museum and working... More

Had a great time here. Very knowledgeable guide. Good balance of activities. Enjoyed going through the tunnels and seeing the old goldmining equipment in operation.

We visited here last week while staying in the Thames area. We have passed this attraction several times and it has always been closed. So we were pleased we could go and have a look this time. The gold mine tours are run by volunteers of a society. The lady we had was very informative and helpful. She even spoke... More

I took my kids to this Goldmine Experience as they really wanted to go into the mines. The guide was very informative and it was very enjoyable being able to actually go into the areas that were worked. It's run by volunteers and well worth the money - I enjoyed it far more than the more commercial venture in Waihi... More

The tours are done by very knowledgeable, enthusiastic guides, they give you a lot of facts and history. Lots of cool photo and information displays. You go underground with a torch and hard-hat, it's great for kids, and people of all ages, very interesting!! You can also try gold-panning, also at the School of Mines. A MUST for tourists, visiting... More

We had a great time here. Our guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He went out of his way to make sure we had a great experience. The gold panning was so much fun and we learnt a lot. I'd definitely recommend it.

This is the real deal and nothing feels at all faked or contrived (unlike many theme parks overseas). Keep in mind that this whole place was constructed, restored and is still run by volunteers so don't expect a highly buffed up commercial presentation and you will just love the experience. Since the guides are volunteers they are genuinely enthusiastic and... More

This is a truly fab place. Yes is is run by volunteers. Yes it could be done a little better. But the welcome and enthusiasm from people that are proud of the local mining heritage wa fantastic. Great to see old machinery in use. This is one for all ages. Walk round mine is short and not strenuous and cool.... More

Have just taken a school group of 72 children through here. The boys loved it. Staff were well organized and used to large groups. Very interesting overview of gold mining in the Coromandel run from a functioning mine.

A great little place, loved the underground mine tour and all the stories. The chap - originally fr Chichester, who did the tour was very knowledgeable and passionate. We did think that it would be beneficial both to the chap running the mine and to the attraction asa whole if he had someone to support him. As mid afternoon on... More
