Te Manawa is a great cultural centre for Palmerston North with changing exhibitions on local and general history and art supported by workshops and classes for all ages and backgrounds. Currently there are exhibitions on local history ancient and more modern, Maori weaving, embroidery and wood craft. It has an extensive archive as well. Never boring because its always changing... At Christmas time Te Manawatu is a magical place to visit with children to see Santa Claus in his Grotto.

I took a 5year old and a 2 year old to see the Dinosaur Exhibition - which they both enjoyed - getting up close and personal with the dinosaurs was pretty cool for them - and reasonably priced as well! However I think the highlight for the children was the kids play area - which we almost missed as it... More

This museum is a great place to come to explore, be entertained, learn and have fun, it also serves as a great place to catch up with your mummy girlfriends while you both relax and catch up while you let the kids run wild, laugh and play. Plenty to see and do in the kids area, as well as in... More

Although the room the dinosaurs was in was not very large and only half a dozen moving models, they were really well constructed and seemed realistic. Lots of skeletons and information to look at as well. The rest of the Museum was pretty typical of small town NZ, compact and informative but easy to go through in under an hour.... More

We took the grandchildren (aged 9 and 2). They loved it. Mostly we concentrated on the dinosaurs, which are truly amazing, but then after both the play area and the art work area proved to be big hits. Only criticism is that it needs to be made clearer that the rugby museum is not part of the experience - unless... More

I heard good things about the dinosaurs so decided to see for myself. The lights, sounds, and movement all bring the dinosaurs to life. This exhibit is so worth it for the money. Plus there is a dino lab and you dig for fossils. It's open till February. It came from London Natural History Museum. The dinosaurs take over Palmerston... More

For those from Wellington or have been a tourist there, I like to think of Te Manawa as Palmerston North's version of Te Papa. Minus the giant squid. It's really quite kid-focussed and the times I've been here has almost every every time had something different for the kids. At Christmas time, Santa's Cove is just amazing and an absolute... More
