The Superpit Gold Mine is on the edge of Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. We just drove to The Superpit lookout and took pictures. There are tours available but you need a reservation. There are huge trucks that take the road to the bottom of the mine and haul out the rocks that contain the gold.

Stayed in town for a few days and checked out the super pit each day at different times. It is out of this world. Wish we had been able to book the tour but left booking too late. :(

We arrived in Kalgoolie in the afternoon after a great stay in beautiful Esperance. We went straight to the Super Pit viewing area and enjoyed the view of it. That night we had a great evening and a beaut meal at the Piccadilly Hotel in Picadilly St.

Whilst there, the lovely Publican was telling us of the dimensions of the Super Pit. On our guided tour the next morning, we were at the super Pit again and taking into account the information we had been given, the Pit was much more impressive on the second visit.

The District is well worth the journey - get to meet some of the locals - it is well worth it.

Did the drive up to the Super Pit. Even the car park was a taste of what was to come. Everything here is supersized! There has to be a word that says bigger than “Super”. It was obvious that this whole area had been very carefully designed to cater for the tourist industry. From the super-scoop to the workmen face board to the big tyre planter box – designed both for fun and interest.

The pit is massive with the matchbox toy trucks and ants at the very bottom of the pit visibly going about their work. The viewing area is large with an encyclopaedic amount of information regarding this mine and others.

We did not do the organised tour due to time restraints - BUT next trip to Kalgoorlie-Boulder it will be on our itinerary.

Fantastic it’s huge! Do the tour or just drive up the hill and see everything. Just a small stroll over to the viewing shed which has all the details about it.

Visited the pit today - an amazing site - well worth a visit - the only negative (which I think is very relative) is that there is NO all weather access from the car park to the lookout making it difficult for people using walkers and or wheelchairs - the road up to this lookout is bad enough being corrugated dirt, you would think the millions of dollars generated from this site and being a MAJOR tourist attraction they could make access all weather as well

Excellent presenter, witty and very informative! Thanks to his work history he presented factual events and experiences! Hubby and I really enjoyed the tour, it was great to see the pit from a different angle, get up close and personal with all the machinery, learn about cost, maintenance and purchases of all the machinery! How the rock is extracted, from the super pit, then how the gold is extracted! A must do in Kalgoorlie 👍

We missed out on the guided tour and so only got to visit the public viewing platform.
Very impressive indeed. Reminded us of the mine at Mt Newman.
