Overlooking the Indian Ocean, the Museum of Geraldton celebrates the rich heritage of the land, sea and people of the Mid West region.

Discover ancient landforms, Yamaji history and culture, and the region’s unique natural landscapes and marine environment.

The archaeological riches from four Dutch shipwrecks - Batavia, Gilt Dragon, Zuytdorp, and Zeewijk, are revealed in the Shipwrecks Gallery. Visitors can join a guided highlights tour available daily at 11.30am.

as they currently lie, 2,500 metres deep on the ocean floor,

in From Great Depths, a moving exhibit and 3D film.

The Museum’s shop has a great range of souvenirs, gifts and educational items suited to all ages and interests.

The Museum is open daily 9:30am - 3:00pm. Closed all public holidays.

This museum in entry by donation. Greeted by a friendly staff upon entry with museum information which was very helpful. Managed to go for a shipwreck tour, which was a highlight for me. Tour guide was passionate and very knowledgeable. The history of the highlighted shipwreck was very interesting and amazing! They also have a 3D theater of the HMAS... More

We went to see the video on the Sydney and ended up staying a long while. All displays are well designed with easy read information. The section on the Batavia after being in Fremantle' s maritime museum was equally impressive. The indigenous art exhibit was also impressive. Well worth a visit for young and old.

Really worth a visit if you are interested in history. Very good display and information on the wreck of the Batavia and the Sinking of the HMAS Sydney II Also good display on the landing of Dirk Hartog in 1616 and the history of the plate he left behind

We went during the Easter Break on Saturday, since they were closed on public holidays. Staff were very nice, all the displays were interesting. A good place to learn about the history of Geraldton. The souvenir shops had a few things that were interesting and represented Geraldton well.

We spent three days in the museum viewing the exhibits, listening to the Shipwrecks talks (twice) and viewing the HMAS Sydney video. That was awesome!

This is a great little museum, with very friendly and helpful staff. When we were there they were showing the HMAS Sydney ll/Kormoran exhibition, which had a short 3D film showing the wreckage of both ships. The museum also has exhibits on the flora and fauna of the region, and includes a look at the indigenous people that inhabited the... More

The museum has numerous interesting exhibits relating to the town and surrounding area. Entrance is free (suggested $5pp donation) and will take over an hour to take it all in - more if you join the daily 1130hrs tour of the shipwreck section. The HMAS Sydney ll/Kormoran exhibition alone is worth coming for, with a short 3D film of the... More
