- Debra MWestport, Canada145 contributionsPeaceful Easy WalkWhat a great gem of a walk in Ballarat. The trail along the shoreline of this lake is a beautifully maintained easy flat walk for just about anyone. Do a section or the entire 6km loop depending on your fitness level. Take your dog, or a friend or go alone - it only matters that you go! Every town should have a walk like this.Visited January 2023Written 7 January 2023
- lachkeiraSunbury, Australia508 contributionsSuch a beautiful 6km walkA beautiful 6km walk around the lake, nice and flat mainly crushed rock style. There's lots of wildlife to see, dragonflies were everywhere and so many great opportunities for photos. A stunning place. there are a couple of toilets and water stations, but not too many so make use of them when you come across them. On a sunny day there is only occasional shade, so would recommend hats and sunscreen. It would have taken about 60-75 mins but we stopped at the Lake view hotel for a refreshing drink.Visited January 2023Written 8 January 2023
- JackieWaWaAdelaide, Australia66 contributionsWindy DayIt was easy walking distance from the main town but it was oooh sooo cold & windy in July. Lake Wendouree is open and vast with no shelter from wind or rain. All that aside the lake is picturesque and a good walk around. Worth seeing whilst in Ballarat.Visited July 2022Written 24 January 2023
- catkid3Victoria, Australia148 contributionsMakes for a nice walkAn easy walking track around the lake; you could easily spend an hour or two making your way around. Lots of bird life hanging around as well. Plenty of parking is available, and there's good amounts of green spaces to have a picnic. You also pass by the Olympic memorial and a children's playground as you make your way around the lake. Visiting in the warmer weather meant we observed lots of families and pets taking a dip in the water, fishing, paddle boarding and boating.Visited January 2023Written 7 February 2023

It offers recreational activities including on and off the water. Several years ago when I visited the lake was completely empty so great to see it full of water. It has a six-kilometre Steve Moneghetti running and walking track, cycling trails, playgrounds and excellent picnic and BBQ facilities. It also offers fishing, sailing and rowing. Its claim to fame is that it hosted rowing events at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. There are several eateries and bars with great views of the lake. We had a beer and the nearby Yacht Club which backed right onto the lake.Visited August 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 16 September 2023

I really liked the Lake Wendouree vistas in the Ballarat Botanical Gardens. There were vivid views and a lot of fun to be had perambulating around the lakeshore. It's an ideal place for an extended walk.

A lovely walk around the lake took us 1.5 hours. Pleasant rather than spectacular scenery. Lots of moorhens and swans ....although not a lot of other bird species. You could take extra time for the botanical gardens and tram museum, although we chose to do that the next day.
The walk is very flat and easy.

Contact Ballarat Tourist Information at the Town Hall (03) 5337 4337 they will be able to answer this and more info about what else you can do whilst you are in Ballarat - I found them very helpful when I was there in May.
