Overview
More
At Sovereign Hill, the story of an important time and place in Australian History, and the people who lived it, lives on. An internationally acclaimed tourist attraction, Sovereign Hill prides itself on its close attention to detail found in every aspect of this living, outdoor museum. Sovereign Hill is a glimpse of the vigour and excitement of life on Australia’s 1850s goldfields. Visitors can find real gold in the creek – gold pans are provided and it’s ‘finders keepers’, see $150,000 worth of molten gold poured into a gleaming bar, and take in the rich program of activities, shows and demonstrations. On Main Street there are working shops, hotels and a theatre – all based on original Ballarat businesses. Visitors are able to watch goldfields tradespeople in action and take a ride around the township in a horse-drawn coach. For the brave hearted, journey underground on a gold mine tour.

Really enjoyed the characterized performances of the staff. It gave an understanding of the life endured back in to the 1850's realistically. Certainly a place I would like to revisit with my grand children in company.

Enjoyed but it is too expensive for the day. And then you must pay for added extras once in side, eg mine tour and horse carriage ride.

We loved this truly excellent attraction - just wish our grandchildren had been with us! It was great even though the weather was not kind - still loads to do.

I grew up in Ballarat and loved Sovereign Hill. It was great to return as an adult. Some fantastic places to see. It was very expensive though! Entry $57 per adult and then you have to pay for most things inside such as tours, etc....More

Our 10 year old grand daughter just wanted to find gold! And find gold she did! We watched the gold pour demonstration and then went down to pan for gold. It was very enjoyable and rewarding. Afterwards we walked around and learnt more about life...More

We throughly enjoyed our recent adventures at Sovereign Hill, one of our town's best tourist attractions, that locals tend to take for granted. The clear highlight of the trip was Tim, doing his blasting demonstration. Very entertaining! We'll be back.

Sorry, no idea, we drove there, they were so professional I would be very surprised if they didn’t. The local Ballarat Tourist information centre was excellent and very, very personal and extremely helpful.
