I'm ashamed to say how long I've lived in and around Ballarat and not visited the art Gallery, but I have now fixed that, the gallery was a pleasant surprise, it had some very good pieces in it's collection, I found my self spending a considerable time down stairs with a photo exhibition from the 70's and 80's " my... A stunning collection both in breadth and depth. We returned for a second day viewing. Staff and volunteer guides are very enthusiastic, knowledgable and friendly. The drawings by Ruby Lindsay and paintings by Percy Lindsay (less well known siblings of Norman) were a highlight. The Rennie Ellis photographs (a touring exhibition) were also an extraordinary experience; time travel catalysed by... More

The Gallery itself is lovely with a reasonably good cross section paintings and other artworks. Particularly the two Chinese Bronze Censors on the landing of the first floor. The Gallery hosts "The Archies" each year which is always fabulous. Kittelty's cafe on the ground floor of the Gallery is very much worth a visit.

Ballarat Arts Gallery has a wonderful collection of the work of Australian artists with almost everyone of note represented by one or more paintings arranged into historical grouping. In addition, there are a surprising number of outstanding overseas artists of the highest levels. The Lindsay family gallery - Norman and his siblings - is an outstanding contribution to art lovers.... More

Aside from hosting the Archies, as the piece de resistance, there are many great exhibitions and regular collections. Beautiful building and nice cafe add to the visit. One or two staff members are a little stuffy but that is their problem! Enjoy the painted people instead.

Impressive range in the collection and a nice spot to take visitors from overseas to get a look at Aussie art. Nice building and easy to get to from the main train station. Air con and free wifi was nice on the hot day.

This was probably my 4th visit! It's well worth arranging to be there for the free tour but if not, just wander and enjoy. On this visit as I walked up the grand staircase, Chopin was being played on the piano in the front gallery, adding to my enjoyment.

It's always good to hear from repeat visitors - especially that you enjoy your visits. We often have music the Gallery - both organised concerts, but also some impromptu performances from other visitors! More

This gallery has a wide range of work in its collection. It is of particular interest when the Archibald comes to town. A friend and I visited last time and enjoyed our visit. Crows were not a big issue. Just don't be in a rush to do tons of other things. It is worth taking in at ease. You also... More

What a treasure trove right in the heart of Ballarat. We enjoyed a brief 1 hour visit., but wished we had more time. So will be back on future visits.
