This is a must see when you visit Bairnsdale. Make sure you get a volunteer to point out some of the most interesting details in the paintings. Like the hostile housekeeper painted in the scene of hell because she mistreated the artist, or the little angel without a face. The is also the story of the bishop that insisted on... More

Having been born in Bairnsdale it has always been a part of my life. Attended may hatches, dispatches and matches over the years. Nicely decorated by an italian painter early last century. Magnificent lead light windows as well.

The church towers over the other buildings in town, trying to make a statement maybe, that I am still significant? Inside the paintings are very impressive, in a follow me or you'll burn in hell kind of way. It is worth a look, if your not religious you will still be impressed at the size and style of the paintings... More

An Italian painter living in Victoria in the 1920's painted this ceiling and really has to be seen to be appreciated.

Have visited this church before and I am still gobsmacked at viewing the interior wall painting. These are reminiscent of the stuff you might see in churches in Italy and it's right here on our doorstep in regional Victoria. Well worth a visit and don't forget to leave a donation as the church is undergoing restoration work.

I'm biased I'm Catholic but what sets it apart is the beautiful motifs, styling and story, for a period I felt I was in Europe!

On an absolutley miserable pouring rainy day we decided to duck into St Mary's to see the windows from inside. They are amazing to see and well worth the short time it takes to go in. The murals are also very interesting if you like the style in which they are painted

A very nice building with some great artwork. However it is rather graphic so be careful with young children
