Description:

Experience the excitement and history of Launceston's spectacular Tamar...

Experience the excitement and history of Launceston's spectacular Tamar River from the comfort of our unique vessels. An informative commentary from our skippers will take you on a historical journey where you will discover the stories and tales that shaped Launceston and the Tamar Valley. Travel in to the heart of the Tamar and view the navigable section of the spectacular Cataract Gorge.

Sample the delights of our local wines and cheeses as you view breathtaking scenery, world class vineyards, historical buildings, rural settings and frequent encounters of fascinating wild life including sea eagles, wild duck, black swans, pelicans, plus many other varieties of water-fowl and occasionally playful seals. One of our passenger recently commented it is like a moving postcard.

It is certainly a 'must do' when visiting Launceston!

We did the 50 minute cruise on the Lady Launceston and enjoyed the interesting information from our Captain, learning more about the area. Lovely view of the bridge and the history of the bridge and gate keepers house. We had done the walk in the morning but enjoyed it from the water just as much. The sheer rock face and... More

Well worth the trip. Only about 45 mins but you get to see the river and the beautiful gorge from a small cruise boat. There were only 5 of us on the trip and we were given a thorough history of the river, industry and life on the river and the surrounding areas. The captain was very normative and enjoyable... More

We did the 2.5hr morning cruise, travelling a third of the way down the Tamar. Our crew were Callum (captain) and Toni. They were both terrific, most welcoming and friendly. Callum was so informative and quite happy to answer as many questions as you have. He appeared to know EVERYTHING about Launceston, the river, Tassie - actually just everything. Fabulous.... More

50 minutes puddling around a very small area with not much to see. Its ok but you're better off saving your money and walking the gorge.

My friend and I went on the Cataract Gorge Cruise with Tamar River Cruises. It was very interesting. The chap who was operating the cruise launch was very interesting with his commentary. Sprinkled with a lovely sense of humour. Well worth doing

The skipper was very informative, and the length of the cruise is just right for families with young kids. You get to hear about a lot of history of the area, and the cruise has great views.

We did the 50 minute cruise which was very informative and kept the kids interest for the length of the cruise. Going up the South Esk river is beautiful as you get to see the soaring cliffs of the gorge from another angle.

We took the 4 hour lunch cruise, with our hosts, Callum and Toni. The trip took us down stream to Batman Bridge and return, with a short trip into both the North and South Esk Rivers. Callum provided one of the most informative commentaries as we travelled, whilst Toni ensured we were well fed during the trip and with our... More
