Enjoyed driving down the West Tamar Highway between Beaconsfield and Launceston. A few good wineries, and Gin Distilleries on the way too.
A beautiful area.

We drove on the eastern section of the Tamar Valley circuit in the morning and witnessed amazing views of the river, hills and historic towns. Western section on the way home but time was short by then. Plenty of wineries to choose from and the wine and cheese platters were great value. We got as far as Greens Beach which had sensational vistas across the bay and surf beach in the national park. Plan your trip as there is much to see and do and the day flies past....a spectacular drive through beautiful country settings and villages.

Beautiful area where we enjoyed spending seven days enjoying some of the delights that the Valley offers. From Low Head to George Town, Windemere, Launceston, Exeter, Beaconsfield and Beauty Head and then a cruise on the Tamar. Lovely scenery, historical sites, attractions and drives; we enjoyed the lot. Great restaurants and cafes. We gave the wineries a miss, too many other attractions.

Opportunity to do some short walks, easy driving, enjoyed lunch at a winery and being able to be in nature. Lots more to do.

The drive through the Tamar Valley is very pleasant. There is plenty to see and there are towns, villages and wineries to explore. You could easily spend a full day exploring the various sights. The people are friendly and it is bustle free. A good way to chill out.

Nice for a drive from Launceston for the day. Very quiet with peaceful country side. Good tourist info at Exeter. Not many place open to eat (it was a Monday), nothing at beauty Point. Good if you like wine tasting . We visited Beaconsfield Mine and History Museum - good and also the Platypus House - excellent.

There are large and small vineyards in this one valley - all good. But my tip is to go for the smaller wineries. More personal, more authentic and some delicious wines.

So many fantastic wineries to visit, with Marion's Vineyard sitting at the top of the pile for me. Genuinely one of the most beautiful cellar door locations you will visit, and with a fabulous array of wines.
Moores Hill Estate, Goaty Hill, Holm Oak and Stony Rise should also be on your to-do list. There are so many more, I just need more time!

Hello, How do I get to the Tamar Valley. I will be driving from Hobart and should I do Cataract Gorge Reserve first or the Tamar Valley? I sound so silly not knowing directions.
Thanks

They are quite close to each other. Cataract G is slightly closer to Hobart and would make a good stop before going to the Tamar valley.
